I figured that most of them were in that situation.

Ha, well it's really the people who decided that running around Times Sq and climbing light poles that I have an issue with, especially considering that the city really has been surprisingly passive this whole time. I took that as a bit of a slap in the face.

They will have to leave Olympic Plaza soon enough:

Quote:
City officials signalled Thursday that Occupy Calgary protesters will have to decamp from Olympic Plaza in the next week.

Police and city officials have so far been reluctant to confront protesters for erecting a dozen or so tents in the downtown park last week in violation of city bylaws.

But on Thursday, officials said that a booking on Oct. 29 for a city faith-based group will require that protesters vacate the property two days earlier so that a cleanup of the plaza can be completed

The Occupy Calgary protest at Olympic Plaza will cost taxpayers at least $40,000 just to repair damage done to the park by the continued presence of the demonstrators and their tents.

That cost will escalate until they finally leave the area said Tom Sampson, deputy chief of the Calgary Emergency Management Agency.

“We believe that the Occupy Calgary folks should move, they’re causing damage to the environment situation,” said Sampson. “That park was never intended to be an overnight area, it’s a day use area and damage to environmental aspects of the park is occurring.”

Not that I support these guys but how can a bunch of people in tents cause 40 thousand dollars worth of damage?

Apparently when 660News sent down a reporter today - she was told she was not allowed to record any of the speeches being made without permission from the occupiers - despite the fact they were public speeches in a public area.

Yup that'll get ya some good media attention.

The reporter I heard on 660 was interviewing a gentleman who had no idea about the occupy movement at all. He was there "for the people, ya know." This fella was either fairly intoxicated or perhaps had suffered a stroke.

She (reporter) also made mention of a couple of heated verbal exchanges she was witness to. Sounds like a wonderful community minded event.
