I would say the pros are the bun, a saucy pattie, and that its not greasy. I guess it depends on the mood you are in - sometimes you want Chef-Boyardee, and sometimes you want fettuccini carbonara.
|
LOL I'm no food elitist or anything but I never want Chef Boyardee.

Actually though, I think if I went to a restaurant, I would want the best they can muster up. So, basically free food, and its their best. Maybe not the most honest reviews but...

That's perfectly fine, I just don't think you should be reviewing them then, it's not really very accurate that way.

Had my first alley burger today. It sure hit the spot. Considering it came from a truck, it was damn good.
I do understand the fuss. I don't think I'd cross town to get it again.
The fries were pretty good. I did like the use of pork, curds and sauce. Very tasty.

Um what?
Not Mormon and not sure how you got there by liking burgers, onion rings and a shake?

Peter's burgers have a weird texture and always make my ass explode. I'm not a big fan

Anybody been to Black Betty Burger and Wine Bar that just opened a couple of months ago on 1st Street and 6th Ave? I tried to get a table there, but apparently you have to reserve 1 or 2 days in advance....

In the 80's, CB's rivalled Peter's for Calgary's favourite burger place. It's a shame.

It really is a shame. It's a good location and stays in business despite poor food quality. There's potential there for something more.

^^^ CB's? That doesn't seem like a very good location at all. I just noticed it the other day when I went to Eurotech. It's crammed in next to a gas station in a small parking lot next to a strip mall.

I think I'm addicted to Naina's. I went yesterday (again) and tried the stuffed burger (jalapeno, bacon, mozza) and it was divine.
Thanks to burgerquest, I'm going to get fat this summer.

I agree that their burgers are sub-par, but their fries are awesome IMO

I tried out Smash Burger last night, and while the burgers were fantastic, the fries were only so-so.
The person I was with ordered an Avocado Club with Fried Pickles, and I got the Classic Burger with Smash Fries. We cut the sandwhiches in half and shared. I don't eat a lot of meat (2-3 times a month these days) so having a burger is like what some people must think what going for lobster is like: a special occasion.
The Avocado Club was descent. The chicken breast was pounded thin, allowing it to be grilled without drying out. They came to our table and told us they were out of avocados and asked us if it'd be okay if they substituted guacamole. I would have said 'no thanks' and ordered something different, but I didn't order that one.
The sandwhich was pretty good, but the deep fried pickles were waaay too salty. I don't like pickles to begin with, but you could hardly taste pickles--just salt. And the buttermilk ranch dressing they came with was nothing special, either.
My Classic Burger was excellent. The patty was thin and I could have done with a double burger, but I left satisfied. Of the three new burger joints I've tried (Fatburger, Five Guys and Smash) this one was definitely my favourite.
The difference between Smash Fries and regular fries is that Smash Fries are coated in olive oil and rosemary. They are nothing special. In fact, they were just dripping with grease and were, again, way too salty. I know you expect salt when you go to a place like this, but this was just crazy.
Again: the burgers were terrific, the fries were 'meh.'

Just a few suggestions of burgers to write a review about:
A Lady Bug Cafe - One of the best burgers I have ever had. Not many people know how good this burger is.
Notable - They change up their burger every month, but I have had 2 iterations of their monthly burger and have thoroughly enjoyed both of them.
Model Milk - Never tried it, but it looks awesome.
