I have a friend who used to talk eerily similar to this. He believed that there was a gigantic conspiracy of world control that only he had uncovered. He also thought he could control the weather. Subsequently he was hospitalized, put on medication, and now he is more normal.

Some of the conversations we would have were buck wild though. I am talking aliens, the president, buying guns and learning survival skills to live in the wilderness. No matter the argument used to debate his position, his invariable response was that I did not know what he did, and that if I had learned as much as he had I would think differently. Comparing sources used, I would say wikipedia would be highly regarded compared to some of the sources of information he was using.

So now we have to wait until Oct 21? Does this mean I have to return all the stuff the nut jobs gave to me last week?

That's why I added my edit, I'm not trying to pretend it's the same.

So? If someone views religion as harmful, a reduction in harm would be a good thing.

The "global warming crowd" isn't making that mistake because they are fully aware of billions of years of past events.

Any trend can of course be reversed, I can't speak for anyone else but I certainly haven't claimed the trend is irreversible and that religion will be dead within x years... I happen to think the other way and that the cognitive glitches that helps make religion thrive aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Of course when one knows(tm) that one is right, an increase in religiosity is winning souls, and a decrease is a validation that the chaff is being separated from the wheat..

Voltaire infamously once predicted the demise of Christianity within 50 years. 50 years later his own printing works were producing Bibles.

You can't be blind to the fact that the Western world is increasingly secular though. We are living in a post-Christianity societ. One that arguebly has its basis on that religion (We take Good Friday as a holiday for example) but has significantly demystified it. With each generation people are losing touch with the their religious roots. Sure, they may go to Church on Christmas and Easter, but that really doesn't count. That is more a tradition thing. And you can bet dollars to pesos that Christmas and Easter phenomenon of attendance is dwindling too.

Or the antichrist. I did the math by reading three obscure bible verses. Enjoy your 7 year reign.

I'm not blind to the decline in Christianity. I just don't believe it is without past precedent. America was founded by 13 christian colonies. Many of them were christian sects who left England because of persecution. They declined from that point up until the Great awakening towards the end 18th century and early into the 19th century. Again we see decline until towards the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Who knows what will happen in the 21st century.

I do know that the advances of Christianty when they occur happens rapidly. When America was founded just over 200 years ago Baptists were found only the tiny colony of Rhode Island, Methodists didn't exists and Catholics had staked out Maryland as its only colony. Today they represent the three largest denominations within the States with millions of members.

And God bellowed unto Harold, "Shut up!" and hence forth, Harold spoke no longer.

In seriousness, despite his false claims and publicity, a stroke is a terrible thing to have. I don't wish him ill, and I hope he's able to recover enough to have a decent quality of life however long it may be.

Harold Camping: Doomsday Definitely Next Friday

May 21 rapture was just misunderstood, he insists its really Oct 21st!!

The prophesied “earthquakes” were really man-quakes, because man was made out of dirt in Genesis, and mankind shook with fear on May 21—get it? So anyone who wasn’t saved by May 21 “will be annihilated together with the whole physical world on October 21, 2011.”
