But Canada didn't exist until 1867. Her reign started in 1837.

Haha, yeah fellas, I meant in the context of MacDaddy's assertion that we've only had two monarchs since Confederation. Ergo, I started the count of Victoria's reign as Queen of Canada on July 1, 1867.

God save the King.

Because I don’t want to endure any more of this vomit inducing sycophantic BS again any time soon.

1763 seems like a more reasonable starting point for when the British Crown gained hegemony over Canada.

Victoria was the queen here her entire reign, Canada just had some disparate institutions at the time.

You can count "the reasonable starting point" from whatever you like, I couldn't care less. If you want it counted from another starting point go ahead and fill yer boots, 'cause I ain't doing it.

You know...all of the articles coming out about how they've been preparing for this and that they have 'a plan' and all the rest of that...

Okay, its great and all that you have guys who have been just waiting all their lives for this day but maybe instead of spending time and resources just coming up with some transitional support plan they should have been twiddling their thumbs for a way not to do have to do this anymore?

Like its not likely we're in for a string of 70+ year long Monarchies.

Maybe stop naming crap after the Monarch, maybe I dunno, limit putting them on the money? Something.

I'm not advocating abolishment or anything, just...we gotta stop wasting resources and money on this crap.

Maybe like little spinning signs like the Russians have and you can just rotate them as necessary between His/Her and Queen/King.

But then we'd probably get a gender fluid Monarch and have to deal with that.

So far, all provinces except AB have made up their mind on Sep 19 being a one-off holiday. ON, QC, MB and SK all say no stat. Stat in BC, NS, NL, NB and PEI.

I'm not super familiar with BC employment standards, but as I understand Monday is not a statutory holiday, but a "public holiday". Schools closed including post-secondary, and crown corporations as well. BC is encouraging the private sector to recognize the day, but as a public holiday if a private company treats Monday as business as usual, they just pay employees their regular wage.

Man. Next Monday will be my busiest work day of the year (100% by coincidence). Not an ideal day for me to have my kids at home with me.

No. I have my own business so JT can't give me a day off!

My biggest deliverable of the year is that day, and its been scheduled for months. I'm working no matter what, a holiday just means my kids will be around as well.

I'll be pissed if just kids get the friggin day off. It'll be nicely sandwiched between 2 other unnecessary days off for them.

For the honour of the Queen they should be put to work for the day in public service like cleaning streets, emptying garbages or hosing the stains off of monuments.

Where do I sign my kids up for that? Even if they're in school Monday I'll need something for them to do September 30.

Alberta missing...it Seems Kenney is in such deep mourning he can't decide between honouring his dear Queen and pissing off the business world.
