[Trade] Jets trade Laine (26% retained) and Roslovic to Columbus for PLD and 2022 3rd

If Columbus wanted Laine, the Flames would not have been able to package together enough assets to make this happen.

I'm interested to see if the Flames do in fact make a big move by the deadline. There might not be many sellers the rest of the year so it's obvious that acquiring an impact player is going to be expensive. One way to avoid overpaying in a deal is to stand pat, but going into the playoffs with the same core again seems really risky.

I feel that the Flames core has changed tremendously since the playoffs last year. We upgraded massively on the player in by far the most important position.

Jets still need defence. It's all part of Tre's elaborate plan. Jedi mind trick Jets to make this move, expose the Jets defensive weakness this year, and then flip Hanifin for PLD in the offseason.

Trouba did it to one team. It would be different to do it to a second team after the first team gave into it. That's just my opinion.

It's really a ridiculous comparison, but I don't think for one second you can question Johnny's commitment to the team and frustration with lack of team on ice results.

I think you can clearly see that with both Laine and Dubois.

Glad the Flames got nowhere near it, as has been said, this works because it's three malcontents moving, not upheaving the (early) established dressing room. One just hope that if the Flames were involved at all, it didn't get to the stage where if Flames players were asked to waive any NMCs.

Said every player and agent after every trade. PLD cannot be happy going to Winnipeg. #1, it's Winnipeg. #2, he has a number of centermen he will have to compete with for icetime. #3, it's Winnipeg.

The only upside for PLD is he will price himself out of the Winnipeg market within 18 months. Winnipeg will not be able to afford PLD in short order. He'll be moved again in the next 18 months.

No you can't. Not if you want to win. Trading a top center for a top wing has always resulted in a worse team. Depth down the middle wins championships, so I can see why Winnipeg was incentivized to make this deal. Calgary would be dumb to trade away Monahan without getting an equal or better center back in return.

Right. I was mixed up momentarily confusing Myers with Trouba for some reason when Winnipeg traded Kane. Although I do recall that Trouba was always pretty vocal about not wanting to play for the Jets. In any event, this happens so often in Winnipeg (Kane, Trouba, Laine, Roslovic) that I doubt it will put off most other teams. It is clearly a market subject to a very high flight-risk.
