It is absolutely embarrassing the low hockey knowledge that the Oilers fan base possesses. Such a joke of a franchise and fan base
They’re gonna need a genie not a Jeannie.

I read this and it dawned on me; the league is doing whatever they can to avoid the Oilers lucking into another generational #1 pick! Right?

The number of powerplays they get is directly correlated to their record, if that adjusts down, even just slightly, they're a lottery team.
I snipped your quote because I think that you nailed it. This is peak oiler right now. One and maybe both glitter twins will be gone soon. They won’t be replaced. Rules against multiple lottery team wins are in place.

They have to trade one and push the money boat out for the other. Ignoring NMCs, does Mavi to Toronto for matthews work? Matthews would leave or need trading at the end of the contract. Bringing NMCs back, all Mavi level players have NMCs and no one is going back to Edmonton.

The league is obviously concerned that this is it for peak greaserville including the smaller roster size.

Also, Spector complaining this morning…not about defensive zone fly bys (“uhhhh…spec can I have a word”)…but blaming Campbell for not using his blocker hand to grab the puck in a human pretzel movement.

It was funny listening to Monster Truck and Lou Lou talk about the illnesses the Oilers are dealing with that made them play with 17 skaters on the ice. You know, as opposed to the fact that they can't ice a full team due to cap restraints. Especially funny as it was Kane who had to sit out yesterday. The player that came back early from his injury that the Oilers needed every penny of his LTIR to ice their full roster. One can only imagine the type of roster they'll ice if they somehow shoe horn Karlsson onto the team. I wonder if there's rules that say a minimum number of players have to be dressed. Because the Oilers might be around 12 or so at that point.

Also, the fact that Mcavi has 102 pts and only 50 EV pts is mind boggling. He is slipping down the P/60 and EVP list pretty fast. And we're supposed to believe he's head and shoulders better than everyone else? Not a chance.

There is no way that Matthews is going to choose to go to Edmonton. He either stays put in Toronto or heads back home to the USA and likely a big market like NY, LA, or Chicago.

Turning their trade "chips" into 3 of those players would be infinitely harder than what Treliving managed to do last summer

Good effing luck bozos

Don't let your expectations get out of whack lol

The Oilers have lots of draft picks, I would not be surprised to see them use their 1st.

Oh wow really? Look out then.

They'll need much more than a singular late first round pick to fetch the likes of Karlsson, Kane or Eckholm at retained salaries

The way things are trending, that pick is looking more like a mid round pick, and optimistically could be a top ten one.

Anyone who thinks the Oilers won't be an absolute contender with the acquisition of Karlsson is funny.

McDavid, Karlsson, Draisatl will basically mean an automatic goal every powerplay.

If Skinner holds up, the Oilers will be a dangerous team.

I don't think anyone doubts they will be a playoff team, but the Stanley cup playoffs are a sprint after a marathon. It is no secret that they ride their top two players like rented mules. The real question is whether or not those two will have gas in the tank by then.

LOL. Another one from the church of more scoring = more wins

How has that worked out in the first 8 McSeasons?

They're already running the two best offensive players in the league together and can't outscore teams right now

Their goal preventing ability is getting worse by the day

If they get Karlsson they will 100% find ways to lose 7-6 in the playoffs, if they even make it

Skinner has a poor record despite his decent numbers, and they are steadily declining as his workload increases. It means he has trouble closing games out. And rarely does a rookie make a team dangerous in the best of 16 tournament when your defending is as pedestrian as edmontons. Experience counts for something, you know

Are you from Edmonton? 1/10 take. Do us a favour and reach out and strangle yourself.

Yep
With the assets they’ll have to give up to get Karlsson and the cap taken on, they will have to finish the year with a 15 or 16 player roster.
Playing the coveted 3 for 40 minutes a night won’t go very far

You are right. Why have any sort of hockey discussion.

We should be spending all our time coming up with a title for the next Oilers thread like junior high kids.

Are you this much fun around your friends and family or do you reserve it all for on here?

keenan87, you've been around long enough. This is not Edmonton Hockey Discussion. Drop this in the Trade Rumour thread and let E=NG do its thing. You're wrecking the experience.

Because its a thread about the Oilers and I said them acquiring Karlsson will make them a really dangerous team and contender?

Wow, such insecurity on here.

Yes, anyone who praises the Oilers must be an Oilers fan and a troll on here (referring to the other idiot poster before you)
