It's centered on a culture that is very structured, precise, formal and patient. It's during a time when travel was by foot, and battles were first discussed between warring parties by courier. I love how long everything takes to move forward. It adds to the immersion (for me, at least).
It sucks there's only one episode left now, and no plans for any other seasons. I wonder if we get any spinoffs at least.

I would just like to point out that I don't know the story (neither the real-life one nor the 1975 written adaptation of it that this show is based on)... but having said that, I was really not at all happy about episode 9's ending.

This IGN article fully encapsulates my thoughts on Shogun. Unpopular opinion. Shogun is better than GoT. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed most of GoT. But Shogun is a pure masterclass, and while fictional in some parts, it's roots are based in history.

Crap, I didn't think that would be a spoiler... other than to allude to something happening (which "something happens" is common at the end of the episode before a finale).
Sorry!

We have a Shogun thread if anyone wants to bump it to discuss spoilers.

Will say the episode 10 description, that has been public for weeks, provided more of a spoiler than FanIn80’s vague comments.

I just finished all 8 episodes of Fallout. I loved pretty much every minute of that show. I'm a huge Walton Goggins fan and the entire cast was excellent. I love shows like this, kind of reminded me of Severance, and Silo in some ways. I knew of the games but never really got into them. I can confidently say even if you haven't played the games and you enjoy a good sci-fi "evil corporation" type show you will enjoy this. Highly recommended.
Also, I just watched the first episode of Shogun.......WOW!!! So many great shows right now.

Fair point. Just my opinion, if I were to compare first season of GoT to this season of Shogun (and this is providing they stick the landing on the finale next week), it is better than GoT.

Speaking of GoT, I’m doing a 2nd watch of HotD since the new season is coming and it’s been a long time since S1.
That show, at its best, easily rivals the best of GoT. If it weren’t for the horrendous episodes 4 and 9, which shoehorned in a bunch of stupid action and plot points not in the book, it would, imo, be the best season from either show. Those moronic unwatchable episodes brought it down a couple notches. Goddamn those episodes are bad and littered with plot holes and stupid nonsensical action for the sake of action. It’s like all the rest of the episodes are GoT early seasons in terms of quality and those two were written by the GoT season 7/8 writers.

Sure, The Last of Us and Fallout shows were good, but this is going to be amazing.

Or maybe it won't be. Who knows.

Um yeah...based on the source material there's nothing else to do after this season.
Bizarre that people always expect more...

The real life guy that John Blackthorne is based off lived for 20 years in Japan and became highly influential. There's lots of material they could draw from not in the novel if they wanted to extend it, and it wouldn't surprise me if FX did that given how much the show has exploded in popularity. I'd just be worried about further comparisons to Game of Thrones and what happened to it when they had to write without a book to guide them

They could easily make Shogun into stand alone seasons with the other James Clavell novels like Tai-Pan, Gain-Jin, or King Rat.

No worries, it wasn't a spoiler, I was just about to fire it up and it was just a bit of a letdown thinking the ending would suck, I actually didn't mind it though, it's hopefully a good setup for the finale.
