OK.
So why waive him?
He deserves better than that.
What value does waiving him provide the team?

The Flames waived Conroy. Did he deserve better than that? Stajan was well paid for his services here.

The value of waiving Stajan provides a roster spot to Jankowski to start this season. Also cap space.

Anyway, you'll disagree. Good enough.

Wasn't talking about the beginning of the season (though I would not have waived him then either). The timeline and original post was that BT made a mistake by "hanging on to Stajan at the deadline".
Not sure what people expected him to do with him instead.
There was likely no trade market for him
And no reason to waive
So what was the error?

I argue the error was giving him any games this season, at the deadline was definitely too late. He's got zero value, except to the Flames for some reason. Which is why I suggested waivers.

I'm glad Stajan got his 1000 games. He's clearly done, but he was pretty far down the list of problems.

I dont think I can take another season of this.

The poor execution, the terrible decisions and the complete unwillingness to change or adapt until injuries or the hand of God force him to and just the awful and dull product.

I'm a big fan of Treliving but if hes unsure about his coach right now even after this epically terrible run-in after the amazing 'stretch run collapse' then I think his head has to be on the block as well.

I've never been as 'checked out' as I have been this season.

I like liking the Calgary Flames. I want to like them. This is proactively making me dislike them. What the hell?

That is why I said it might be heresay. I sure don't like the seemingly endless defence of GG right now. I will remain hopeful until the decision is made.

GG is gone no matter what Freidman spitballs. There is no way BT can hold on to him with the way we performed down the stretch.

Its mind bottling to hear the defence. The team basically plummeted into despair the last month or so and some people fail to acknowledge what's clearly in front of their face. The concerning thing is from what I've read is the defence is coming from well known media personalities as well, which means it isn't just a few delusional fans. If this desire to continue down this path is permeating from the organization, to the media, to even some long time fans, I think there is an alarming lack of self awareness going on with the Flames as an entity. It could take what started as a promising rebuild and sink it pretty quickly.

I think the debate or discussion on Players vs coach is over.

Absolutely the players are partly to blame, and absolutely the coaching is partly to blame.

I don't see how under any circumstance Gulutazan can come back. Its over.

Two full seasons of this awful nightmare, and Tre is still struggling with his decision on this? Jesus H. tap-dancing Christ..WTF??

My patience as a fan right now is seriously nearing it's breaking point. If he doesn't make the right decision on this, I'm honestly not sure if I can stomach watching this team at all next year.

Holy. This is stunning if accurate. I get that there needs to be a process, but what more does he need to see?

GG's tenure in Dallas was a mirror image. The body of work indicates to expect more of the same. There is no hope for some kind of a miraculous turnaround in performance here.

Lets be honest here. Elliott Friedman really doesn't know anything other than what people tell him. We shouldn't put a whole lot of stock into his speculation.

This coach is gone.

I would be stunned if he's not fired by this time next week. I get Treliving likely doesn't want to make the coach the sole scapegoat and let the players off the hook but keeping Gulutzan would be one of the worst moves made in the history of the organization and he's smarter than that. I hope.

Great, we have a GM just as terrible as the coach if Gulutzan sticks around.

I'll have to take a break from the team if GG is the head coach starting next season. I can't support this inept organization any longer until they get their head out of the asses and have a competent front office for once. Only two first round advancements in 28 years is pathetic, and that decion will only ensure it turns to +29.

I don't think there's anyway that he's not fired. I can't even wrap my head around the possibility and reasoning of him getting another shot.

My guess is after playoffs. At the very latest, prior to the draft. They'll have some sort of a contingency plan and wheels in motion prior to anything happening.

What would Treliving tell Friedman? I think it is just speculation on Friedman's part. Treliving is neither going to come out and confirm or deny anything at this point.

I think you'll see a clear house after the next week or two. If you wait until the playoffs is over some of the bigger catch coaches will probably be gone and we'll be stuck with another GG type coach.

Yeah, something I noted when listening was Friedman said "I believe he is thinking..." which sounds like pure speculation. I would take his comments with a grain of salt.
