No, you guys are right, it’s not only realistic, but in fact most businesses rely on marketing professionals, delivery drivers, food supply chain workers, cleaners, maintenance workers, etc all making significantly less than $15/hr.
I’m actually not sure what’s less realistic:
- that a business is going to rely on 10ish direct staff and 6-10 contract/indirect workers making near minimum wage to survive
Or
- that almost small businesses actually carry a staff of 10 and contract out things like cleaning, general maintenance, and advertising
I'm amazed he made it to that age befroe realizing that you never use toe clips! Took me until I was 14.
Not really Biden's fault, I've witnessed many of those failures. Top notch political point scoring thoguh, really solid stuff. Now should we review Bush Jr falling off his bike, or face planting on a Segway?

Why is $15 this magical number that is the right number everywhere?
It's easy for someone living in Calgary to say its abhorrent that people are making less than $15/hour. But I'd argue there are lots of places in the US that someone making $10/hour is living significantly better than someone making $15/hour in Calgary.
You can't just ignore the vast economic disparity across the country and say that the same min wage makes sense across the board. Because, there are going to be areas that will see stores and restaurants close at a $15 min wage, and in those areas, there aren't likely going to be any business or industry to pick up those employees. Most of the country is living in places where $15 min wage doesn't even change anything, so it's not going to help the working poor in expensive cities where $15 isn't a living wage.

Point scoring or not, these things matter to Joe Q Public.
What always stands out to me about public, everyday perception of people who don't care about politics, is when they see the President appear lesser. The video of Bush throwing out the first pitch of the first WS game in NYC after 9/11 2001 is neat, but the comments at 3:38 of author David Fisher, who doesn't care for Bush as a politician, illustrate the positives to seeing a President who can do things that "regular" people think is important, for better or worse.

lol Dave Portnoy? The 50 year old living desperately trying to extend his frat boy years? He shouldn't talk to anyone about weakness.
Joe Biden is old, America should stop electing old people. Could Donald Trump or any other legitimate candidate in the 2020 election even get on a bike?
You’re comparing apples to oranges because the higher price of gas isn’t currently leading to increased wages for the workers at gas stations or to those working in production of the fuel yet the companies producing it are making more off of it, but I will say that in general if workers were making more then higher gas prices wouldn’t be as big of an issue for them.
There isn’t anything forcing you or any business to give employees earning higher than minimum wage a raise.
Higher gas prices is leading to increased wages across the O+G industry
I have done that numerous times. I pretty much always ride clipless and I still do stupid stuff sometimes. I almost wish people had filmed some of my stupid crashes just so I could have preserved them for posterity

Really? Gas station attendants aren’t still making minimum wage?
Most private companies don’t release exact figures of what they are paying employees so I’d be interested to see what data you are basing this claim on. I find it hard to believe there is very much information publicly available as gas prices have only skyrocketed recently over the last few months.

Didn’t say it was. I was using it as an illustrative example.
But even in Mississippi, which is one of the cheapest states to live in the US, a living wage for a single adult with no kids is about $15-$16. Even in Mississippi, $10 doesn’t let you live significantly better than $15 in Calgary.
So you’re right in the sense that $15 is probably the minimum and isn’t enough in other places. It should be even higher.
You can argue whatever you want though. You seem to take issue with $15 as a “magical” number and not what paying people a living wage is meant to address. If that’s your priority, fine, but the least you could do is speak in terms of what a living wage actually is in many of these places, and not random conjecture about, to speak in your terms, “magical” places where $10 is like $20 in Calgary. Or how “businesses will just close and no one to replace them” which ignores the basic fact that people will suddenly have more money to spend and any half intelligent business minded person is going to ensure they have somewhere to spend it.
Like, let’s talk real stuff if you want to talk real stuff. If you’re going to take issue with “magic” numbers don’t offer up fantasies as the backbone of your argument.

I am probably going to get a wage increase related to the O+G boom before a gas station attendant does, and I don’t even work directly in the industry lol.

Why does anyone care if he falls? Everyone does it, particularly when you are at your most relaxed.
I went over my bars on pneuma last year, which is an up track as I was relaxed and chatting with my buddies about battery and hydrogen fuel cell tech.
George W. Bush fell off a Segway during a photo op. It was kinda silly, but nobody really cared at the time.
More recently, Donald Trump chose to ride a golf cart at a G7 summit in Italy while other world leaders like Trudeau, Merkel, and Macron walked the relatively short distance instead. That was far more embarrassing and should have made the US president look feeble and weak in front of his peers, but Trump's supporters still had a cult-like worship for their god-emperor.

Trump couldn’t even ride a bike yet my Twitter feed contains retweets from Trump lovers vilifying a 79-year-old man for a minor tumble off of his bike.

So, first, he only fell because he was using pedal straps and his foot got caught. That can happen to anybody, although I have no idea why he would be using pedal straps, that makes no sense.
Second, the ACTUAL most egregious thing about this whole story is that apparently Dave Portnoy doesn't know the difference between "manor" and "manner". Why is Dave Portnoy?
