Those are the only hockey deals I can think of.

If Markstrom is the Devil's primary target, then whatever they deem to be the value of acquiring him is the true value.

We can talk circles all the day long about what's valued at what but it takes to teams to make a deal and if NJ gives up 10th overall for Markstrom, then that's his value.

Thing is with historical precedents is they don't matter much if a team wants a player enough.

Ill keep going back to the Tanner Jeanot trade until the day I die on that front. That was egregious overspending for a 4th liner.

And then to a lesser but far more painful extent, I'll add in the trade of Travis Hamonic to CGY.

If a team wants a guy bad enough, they'll pay.

Right? Like it makes all the talk about trade values utterly useless. Like I said, you want someone bad enough, you'll pay.

And as a fun little add on, 10th overall for Markstrom seems like a sane and practical approach to team building in comparison.

I'd probably do it, but I really don't want to trade Pospisil if at all possible.

I think he is one of the players we have on the team who has so much potential. And I think his attitude on the ice and dragging everyone into the fight is infectious.

I think it's the same thing that happened in the Hamonic trade. A GM sees a good cost controlled asset for the next several years, and pays for the cap savings.

That's one of the top reasons I think we should trade Andersson right now. That's also why we could've gotten a much better return on everyone(Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev, Toffoli) had we rebuilt in the 2022 offseason.

I would rather just take New Jersey’s 2025 1st, Bahl and Palat and help them out with salary and leave Markstrom alone. If the Flames are taking on 3 years of awful salary they certainly do not need to add anything. I am not even sure I would do that trade because I think taking on 18 million dollars worth of salary for a 30-35 point guy who is 33 years old is a pretty bad move. Palat is hitting the Lucic stage of his career.

Trade would be Palat, Bahl and an unprotected 2025 1st for nothing.

Dreger was just on TSN 1200 in Ottawa, some interesting trade talk on the show
- talked about how Staios would like an upgrade in goal, not comfortable with Forsberg and Korpisalo.
- talked about how it is a “real thin” goaltending market
- spoke about how New Jersey is looking for a goalie. Said that Toronto is looking for a goalie because they are not comfortable with Woll being able to handle the entire mail yet.
-spoke about how Nashville thinks they will re-sign Saros, talked about how Saros agent thinks he will re-sign in Nashville.
- spoke about how Ullmark does not want to leave Boston, how he made that clear at the deadline and about how the 15 team NTC will give Ullmark some control on destination and potentially take out teams that need a goalie.
- listed the teams that are probably looking right now - Ottawa, New Jersey, Toronto, LA, Colorado, Carolina.
- spoke about how there is a lot of nervousness around the league about Gibson, term and contract amount.
- spoke about how the Oilers got down the road on Binnington and that he could be in the market
- ended talking about Markstrom, said New Jersey is circling back and that it may take the 10th overall pick to get it done.
- spoke about Necas too, half the league has inquired, thought Montreal had the inside track. Interestingly he talked about how the Hurricanes do not really want to move him but it is a situation of the family (dad) meddling that is driving the situation.

Lots of speculation in Ottawa about getting a goalie and a RD. Feels like they are feeling the pressure from the Tkachuk camp to make Ottawa better immediately.

Sounded like Dreger thought there were 6 teams looking for an upgrade in net and 2 to 3 goalies possibly available that would meet that need.

Why would someone give up a player with pretty good positive value for a player with as much negative value as exists in the NHL?
