For a guy who doesn’t want to be a GM, Mavi’s agent sure is making a lot of trades.
On pissy, wasn’t the Draisatl file going to be the first item on the agenda for the new but still unhired GM?
A 1 year pissy contract is interesting, but it will have to be well above market value to mitigate potential risks to the player. Like max contract value for 1 year.
I think that the decision has already been made…maybe by both parties but certainly by Draisatl and his agent. I just don’t think that Draisatl wants to negotiate; he wants max term and potentially almost max money. I have no source, but isn’t that where you personally would start if you were Draisatl’s agent? The cap is going up, so this year’s maximum is not next year’s maximum. Mavi will ask for max term max money so why wouldn’t Draisatl start there too?

Edmonton media like to assert that Edmonton is the only place Draisaitl and McDavid can stay together and compete… I don’t think that true. If anything, Edmonton is in a tougher spot to stay competitive during the next contracts with McDavid and Draisaitl because of their future cap problems with an already old team. And they don’t have much in the system to supplement the team with young, cost-controlled players. I think other teams with younger players on the upswing will be a better bet for McDavid and Draisaitl to stay competitive. I mentioned LA as a good example in the Byfield signing thread. They have both Byfield and Kempe on very reasonable deals. Kopitar and Doughty will either retire after their current contracts or likely sign team-friendly deals. They’ll have the cap space to sign McDavid and Draisaitl to big deals in 2025 and 2026 if they make it to free agency.
That’s just one example but I’m sure there are other teams that will be able to make a strong offer for them to be on the same team and stay competitive. Meanwhile, the oilers will be depending on players like RNH, Nurse and Hyman to be good players into their mid-30s.
Because she is a crappy actress? Because she hates California? Because she believes Edmonton is the best place on earth?
Explain?
I was taking a shot at her acting chops. If you're in a movie I work on you are a hasbeen, never was or never going to make it. She does a lot of low end love and Christmas story movies for Hallmark and the like.

She had to start her own company. Hallmark was too racy for her.
the drummer in my band is an 'extra' in a ton of these 'hallmark' movies. a couple months ago there was a candace cameron movie being filmed in kelowna and he was an extra in it. he said that she is pretty nice but there were lots of 'rules' on set... like absolutely no swearing.

I had baby swimming lessons in the pool with Ms Cameron. I don't have any actual bad info on her - I figure she's a bit of a nut like her brother though.

Close. The original founder of Hallmark left and started a new company, Crown Media because he didn't like that Hallmark started adding people of colour and LGTBQ+ characters. He did this with Cameron and two other actresses but I forget their names. They might be partners or at least producers, can't quite remember.

Pretty sure she's in on the deal. But it was a year or so back so I don't recall. "Too racy" was me being nice (and maybe punny).

This whole they always need to play together is just PTSD from when they said the same thing about Mess and Gretzky back in the day. McDavid and Draisaitl are friends but they are not married to eachother or even hang out all the time outside of the rink. This is just Oiler media in denial like their fan base that these guys will leave. NHL history is full of guys that were great friends and loved playing together that moved on to different teams, only the No Good Oiler media would think they have to play together no matter what.
It's interesting how confident Oilers fans in general that they are going to lock up Draisaitl and McDavid. It's going to make the fallout that much more glorious if it doesn't happen.
I have to think that both of them are smart enough to realize that if they couldn't win a cup when both were being paid under market value that it's going to be considerably difficult when both are getting paid and I'm sure both of them and their agents are fully aware of the age of the roster and cap limitations over the coming seasons. If both of them were to re-sign with the Oilers I would have to surmise that they just aren't bright.
