Such an ugly inning for the Jays.

A lot of hard contact, even with the outs

The Jays have hit Richards hard this season. They'll need that trend to continue to get back in this one.

The Jays offense has been best at building on leads. They seem to be better at front running than coming back which I think explains a bit about the run differential vs wins discrepancy.
Let’s hope their bats get on track today because Ryu isn’t really on yet and needs some support.

Teeing off on Ryu so far. Kinda knew this was coming after the Sox found a way to win last game.
Might have to pull Ryu pretty quick.

With an off day tmrw, I'd get the hook out soon. Sox are locked in on Ryu

What's the point of checking the pitchers for sticky substances when they are getting hit around?
Seems like adding insult to injury.

Guys have been hit hard even when they have used sticky substances. Also, if you are getting hit around, you might be tempted to sneak some sneaky substances mid-game to get things back on track.

Got one back. But that horrible call by the ump cost the Jays a run and an opportunity at a huge inning.

I don’t mean to sound alarmist but this isn’t the first time that Ryu has had a terrible outing during the biggest games of the season. Remember last year, he had a very similar outing in the playoffs.
I think, at this point, it’s probably preferable to have Ray or Berríos pitch if you had the choice to pick a guy to start in a huge game.

I may be wrong but he wanted regular days rest to close out this series rather then the planned extra day. I think it’s statistically proven he is FAR more dominant with that extra day and likely next time the manager should make the call rather then letting Ryu dictate.

Jeez. What a tough outing for Ryu. 4 runs on 10 hits and walk through 3.2 IP.
Need a clean inning here so hopefully Murphy can strand the bases loaded.

Ray has such good stuff that it can cover a lot of sins. If he isn’t spectacular, he can still grind out a decent effort. Ryu relies more on deception and messing with timing, so when he’s off, he can get hammered.

Agree completely.
Ryu is a solid pitcher who will give you lots of consistent starts. But he doesn't hold up as the ace. And he has not raised his game in big contests.
I am not taking anything away from him - he is a great pitcher, and a fantastic #2 or 3 (or preferably 4). But he isn't a #1. Which is fine now, because they have Ray and Berrios. And Manoah is working his way into the conversation as well.
