Its a very demanding job in all honesty, and if you never really expected to win you probably aren't up to wanting to put that kind of effort in.

I know it has already been said but the stuff I am seeing on my Facebook from young left wing voters is truly unbelievable. Walking around today I was surprised to see that no woman was getting attacked and raped! The scary thing is that these people were mostly NDP voters. How can a Party with a leader who visits an Asian "Massage Parlor" be considered the right person for a woman voter? I guess we can deduce his stance on Immigration..... Yikes.

Its also the reason he has a majority. Still is one hell of a politician.

Just thinking about this election today, I'm so unbelievably happy that the Bloc got destroyed. Seeing them march out Jacques Parizeau at the end of the campaign there turned my stomach. Screw the separatists. Not that this really signifies anything, since the quebecer protest vote simply moved to whoever promised the most.

You could say that about every prime minister over the last 30 years Liberal and Conservative.

No politician at any point in time in this country has been a bigger scum bag than Jean Chretien. The guy should probably be in jail, not trotted out by a desperate Liberal party in the final days of an election campaign.
Followed closely, of course, by good old PET - another embarrassment of a politician.

I think you would have a hard time arguing that Paul Martin was that kind of politician. He seemed legitimately concerned with reaching compromise. Probably to a fault.

He lost all credibility by hiding his own wealth off shore by having his ships registered in the Bahamas. Wanted to be PM of Canada, wanted to take my tax money, but didn't want to pay tax money himself?
I'll admit he seemed like a decent enough guy and did look to, in general, appear to have the best interests of the country in mind but come on... you can't be skirting the tax laws while at the same time be looking to dip into my wallet. Pathetic.

I must admit, JC's stock went up a few notches in my books when he tried to choke slam that one protester. That was pretty bad ass.

It will be interesting to see if this changes in the next Parliament.
It doesn't win friends, but I think Harper was fairly brilliant in his ability to stare down the opposition despite his minority status. Joe Clark tried it, and lost his job within nine months. Harper realized he had a weak opposition, and flat out dared them to stop him. I get why people would hate him for it, but at the same time, it was damned effective.
But with a majority, he doesn't have to stare down the opposition in any more. It was noted by more than one analyst last night that majority houses tend to be more cordial than minority. I don't expect Harper will be discussing the budget with Layton over coffee any time soon, but we might see a more workable Parliament now.
Or, maybe not. You never know.

JC was satan himself, he's a total cancer who couldn't resist setting a time bomb on his own party on the way out the door.
For the people that complained that Harper is so mean and corrupt. Harper couldn't hold a light to Chretien.

Two guys at work today told me they were upset at Harper winning "because he bought planes with no engines". WTF are they talking about exactly? I assume something to do with the F35?

Yeah, a lie that both Chretien when he made his stump speech and Ignatieff both made during his election.
Ignatieff came out and said the costs of jets didn't include engines, the DND basically came out and said "What the f##K are you talking about?" Ignatieff backed off on the jets after that, then Chretien came out with the same stupidity.

We need a bump of this thread after the jet order is said and done. I have a hard time believing the conservative's numbers on this.

I'd say Mulroney should take that honour. I lost some respect for Harper as the government threw their soft ball questions at him.
I mostly lean left in my opinions and votes but I have a grudging respect for Harper and hope he continues to show good judgment with his majority.

If you pin the whole sponsorship thing on JC (which is reasonable) how can you ignore the envelopes stuffed with cash from a criminal arms dealer and only reporting it when you were confronted by the RCMP?
