Doesn't mean they are Lehner's first choice. He is a UFA. No doubt that vegas will make him a big offer but perhaps he's got his eyes on different markets.

Regarding Lehner - Treliving has had the opportunity to acquire him twice as a UFA, once when the Flames were in the market for a goalie and likely for much cheaper than he is making now.
Each time he passed over him for whatever reason. Maybe never even considered him? Who knows. Certainly seems like Tre isn't interested in Lehner.

Perhaps, but I would be surprised. I sure don't see him making the switch to a different market unless someone else is prepared to significantly overpay. VGK looks like a perfect landing spot for him.

Or Lehner wasn't interested in Calgary? That's also a possibility.

Entirely possible. Just seems like the two would find each other. One guy wants term, one team wants (or needs) stability. Still, he's been available and for whatever reason isn't here. So we can probably close the door on hoping he'll end up with the Flames IMO
Especially now, as noted above, his asking price is probably significantly higher than it would have been otherwise

Honestly could see Lehner trying to avoid the pressures of a Canadian market. He's dealt with it as the highly touted prospect in Ottawa, so he knows what it brings.
As a guy who has been very open with his substance abuse and mental health issues he's probably very strategic when he's picking teams to not put himself in high pressure markets that could be all over him publicly.

Isles blockbuster?
Going completely off the board.
To Isles:Gaudreau, Monahan
To Flames: Barzal, Ladd, Dobson/Wilde
Calgary may still be able to replace Gaudreau with Hall assuming Barzal comes in under 10 and Dobson steps in as a top 4 D?

Gaudreau had a bad year and was still wayyyyyy better than Johansen
Nashville should be the team adding, and they should be adding a lot

Johanson, you've got the picks wrong???????
Try Johanson+1st+ for Gaudreau

I suspect a Montreal wouldn’t be interested in a Kylington + 2nd though. The Habs have stockpiled picks and if anything I would bet they are looking to move some. What if the puck went the other way? Hanifin for Domi and a 2nd?

It might be my bias, but players who play centre are higher value. Likewise Johanson has a .842 playoff pts/gp with 48 pts in 57 games.
Johanson is under contract until 2025 at 8 M which is not entirely reasonable, but still he is only a year old than Gaudreau.
The exact details of the trade - as in who adds I may have been out to lunch. But I think that this is the kind of deal the Flames are going to get. No one trades a complete player who fits into their roster well. The Flames are going to have to give up good players to fill their needs.

That's nowhere near what we should get for Gaudreau either.

Great article, Scorp - well written, informative, and balanced.
My comment was going to be this:

I can't see Kylington and a 2nd getting it done, but I am glad to see you aren't trying to build a trade around Gaudreau any more.
If we had Brodie re-signed, I could see something involving Hanifin, but we are going to be thin on D this year. Having said that, Hanifin for Domi and a 2nd is probably a pretty good trade for both teams.
I do like the idea of Domi with Tkachuk.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Domi - Mangiapane
Lucic - Bennett - Dube
Ryan - Backlund - Reider
Another thought might be Kylington + Ryan for Domi (though I doubt the Habs go for that)

I think the Flames would sooner sign Barrie than re-sign Brodie. There were rumours of a Brodie/Barrie swap during the regular season.
Going with Barrie instead of Brodie would also give us the PP quarterback that we need with Gus leaving.

Brodie >> Barrie
The only thing Barrie has going for him is as the PP quarterback.
I would rather re-sign Gustafsson for way less money than sign Barrie

Adrian Dater seems to think he has the insider track info that the Avs will be hard and heavy on Murray. Like he's their #1 target.
I think Tree went after Murray acouple.of times so I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames got him. I think his values dropped to a point Tree will be comfortable with.
IMO, move Ritter, sign Talbs to tandem with Murray.

Ugh, I'd rather let Gustafsson sign elsewhere for peanuts than give h any offer at all. So many turnovers and defensive gaffs that weren't even close to evened out by his (lack of) offensive production.
That said, I pass on Barrie too, and presume Brodie gets paid more to go elsewhere.
Time for Anderson to take that role (fully), and promote from within next year. (Valimaki, Kylington, others to get larger responsibility)
