Dougie needed a new contract but he was coming off a 42pt season as a 21 year old. He was a proven NHL talent and we paid less for him. I would be hesitate to trade the 6 for Werenski straight up but adding 3 2nd rounders ins ludicrous

Jost is up to #5 overall on this ranking. Very interesting comments on picks 4 to 8.
I would much rather they take Jost than one of the defensemen. As long as they take one of the top ranked forwards I feel they have a good chance at a hit.

#6 AND our 2nds? For Werenski? He is a good prospect, but #6 alone can net is a comparable prospect. Ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

Werenski would be the no doubt first dman taken in this draft. However why trade for him ?

Eh, I don't think Werenski is a better prospect than Sergachyev, Fabbro, Chychrun, or Juolevi. People forget that in his draft year there were big questions about his defensive zone play.

I have to disagree. I think he's ahead of all those guys and was in his draft year.

Disagree. Much rather have Dubois or Tkachuk over any of those guys even if it means giving g up a 2nd rounder to Edmonton or Vancouver

I haven't seen any of them play, but don't you think you're reaching? He was the 3rd Dman taken in his draft, at 8th overall.

Sounds like he had a fantastic draft+1, but obviously we're using hindsight if that comes into the equation.

On the Oilers official website, they had a spot on the side of the page showing how each of their players was doing in the World Championships. Draisaitl was among the group, despite the draft still being about 6 weeks away.

I'm seem to recall they listed Draisaitl as one of the "Oilers at the WC" before they had even drafted him

Werenski hasn't played a game in the NHL yet. but he's worth 6th overall and two 2nds? There's no way you can say he's a better prospect than these other D listed as he hasn't accomplished anymore than they have. Other than he's a year older.

Gauthier is not lasting to 25, I'm told both Ottawa(12) and Detroit(16) have targeted him and I would imagine many more.

Last year he was projected top 10 and some scouts thought he might crack the top 5, had he not been injured by a cheap shot he may have had 50 goals, even missing 14 games he finished 4th in the Q with 30 even strength goals.

I wouldn't be upset or surprised if BT and Button stepped up and take him at 6. Fits their bill of big and physical with skill at 6'4 and 225 and two back to back 40 goal seasons. 38g in 14/15 and 41g in 15/16. His highlights on Youtube look pretty good. Have to remember Central Scouting and the Flames scouts won't be ranking the same, so it all depends on how Button views him.

I'd be fine with Gauthier, but would want to see the Flames utilize some asset management if that's their guy. I'd not be happy if they retained 6th and used it on this player. They should trade down if that's the case to maximize their valuable 6th selection.

In a lot of the recent mock drafts Dubois is falling out of the top five. Still feel there is an excellent chance he is available at 6 if the Flames want him. I would prefer Nylander or Jost myself but the consensus in this thread is pro-Dubois.

Tkachuk is almost for certain going to be an Oiler. Most logical play for Oilers is trade for NHL ready D and pick a player who can contribute meaningful minutes as early as next year.

I'm praying someone ahead of the Flames takes Tkachuk since I'm in the Tkachuk = the sam gagner of that line camp
