Hmmmmmm
Perhaps the reason it’s not done yet is because they are trying to get rid of Kane to make the deal
Which would be harder than making their cap work

I hope that the ICE District Authentics store churns out hundreds of pre-crested Karlsson jerseys in anticipation of a trade, only to have them heaped in a remainder bin at steep discount come the annual summer sale.
Next to the $500 shoes.

I really don't believe that Karlsson would go to any Canadian team other than Toronto. If he would , Calgary should just say #### it and go after him. Spend it if you really aren't going to use it the right way anyways.

Yeah this feel like entirely Canadian media created hype.
He has a complete NTC/NMC. He lives in San Jose. Why would he willingly choose Edmonton?
Why would he willingly choose anywhere that isn't California, Florida or Vegas?

I just don't buy it.
Probably would depend on how attractive or unattractive playing with McDavid and Draisaitl is to him. I have a tough time assessing how McDavid is actually viewed by other players because living here the Hype Machine is dialed at 110 all the time.
But between it being, well, Edmonton AND the fact that the Oilers have Kane, I don't think he waives.

Of course the Oilers think that, in order to improve their defence, they need to go get a high octane run and gun offensive style Dman on an expensive contract.
So stupid. This would be like the Flames saying we need to improve our goaltending so let’s go get Bryzgalov or Matt Murray.
I am not going to pretend to know what is going on in Karlsson's head, but after the drama surrounding him and his wife when he left Ottawa, he would probably think twice before entering another Canadian market.
3. The best you can do to rate and rank NHL d-men is to take a number of stats based on offensive point production (even strength point and power play point rates) and also consider usage, how much ice time a coach gives his d-men at even strength, in over-time and on the penalty kill. That usage in overtime and short-handed is the best proxy for defensive performance I’ve been able to find. Essentially this system puts a lot of weight in the opinion of NHL coaches, as seen in how much ice time in key situations they give their d-men.
If you can come up with a list of stats that spits out a superior ranking to that one, I’ll adopt your method immediately.
Yup, that's the best way anyone has ever determined to rank NHL Defensemen. Just look at their points and usage and just like that, you have their definitive defensive ranking. Points are all that matters (defense? lol outcome of that usage? Please. ) and coaches have never been forced to play a defensemen more than they'd like because it's all they have. You've cracked the code Staples!

4. This same ranking system has Darnell Nurse at 17th overall and Jakob Chychrun 16th.
Campbell, while the worst goalie, has gotten more run support in his games, and has a better record as a result. So he's been getting more games of late. While Skinner posts much better numbers but can't seem to close games out as efficiently (but he's also falling back to earth in recent days). It's an interesting pickle the No Goods are in
Then again, it can't be easy to play behind that defense. Good thing they're looking to help improve it by acquiring Erik Karlsson
I believe that the Wheels are going to fall off the Oilers, its already started to happen. They had some success and then blammo, they fall back into the bad habits.

Yep
They just got 6 points in 5 games against Detroit, Philadelphia, Ottawa and Montreal.
Their next chunk of games include Boston, Colorado the Rangers and Pittsburgh.
Could go south quite quickly.

Playing 10 of the last 13 against bottom feeders really does wonders to smooth over the warts for a while and elevate foolish hope
