This is the time of year the NHL knows the Oilers will be in shambles and in risk of missing playoffs. the schedule makers plan for them to have opponent's being on the back end of back to back games and also make sure they have numerous days off between games so the glitter twins can rest because they will be playing north of 25 mins per night.
Been the same for a number of years now.

Jack said the other night they’ve had 30 opponents on back to backs in the last three years. Not sure if that’s three whole seasons or last two plus start of this one. Probably the latter.

Christmas cards have been sent to the referees to remind them about the right of way rule, and to allow slew feet and groin spears from one player, and for the other to grab the opponent’s stick and fall over to earn a penalty for the other.
They also encourage creativity like missing icing calls, and a wide, wide latitude when the glitter twins leave the ice to avoid a “-“ without incurring a too many men penalty.

that's a quarter of their home games - that's insane
how many have the Flames had?

Not all were home games. They always get games where they sit in the opposing city for a couple days waiting for the home team to travel from the night before.
They’re 22-7-1 in those 30.

So they're .750 in those games and .585 the rest of the time
Can you say 'propped up by the schedule'?

But of course there is no favouritism from the league, zero whatsoever.

There is a group of games in January where the Coil get the Flames left overs 4 games in a row (Devils, Pens, Caps and Ducks).

Boo-boo turnovers so good and tasty that Skinner and Kulak and a second escaped Shelbyville because of them!

That is infuriating. It's amazing how much the league continually pampers these losers, even though the evidence clearly shows that they'll never win a championship no matter how much the NHL tries to prop them up.
Once McDavid leaves for greener pastures (which won't be long at this point), I'm curious to see if they give his destination team the same kind of butter-soft schedule, of if this was just an Oilers phenomenon.

Do the Oilers tend to bed the 2nd half of back to backs because Calgary's airport is a lot larger and more relevant? Edmonton's airport is like it's zoo and freeway infrastructure - barely existent.

It's because no team, staff or player wants to spend the first night of a back to back in Edmonton. When its the 2nd game of a B2B, teams show up that morning, play their game, and get the hell out of Edmonton in less than 24 hours, usually 16-18 hours only, which is still enough time to crush anyone's soul.
