Craig's List 2014 Prospects
If Treliving figures out a way to get the top pick out of Florida without giving up the 4th, I'll become a season ticket holder.
Ekblad and Bennett/Reinhart/Draisaitl would be a dream draft.

Easy to say that but many players struggle to add that kind of weight if they aren't naturals at building bulky muscles. Plenty of guys in the NHL who are Bennett's height but don't get to 200 lbs. Lot's of people have different body types. Some guys build leaner muscles and some guys are naturally bulkier. Seems like Bennett may be the former and Draisaitl the latter.
The combine will helps teams determine things like that.

I can't wait for the combine. Will put a lot more pieces of the puzzle in place and allow us to better gauge players.

Yeah, people put way too much stock in height. It's the weight that makes a difference. Also if you watched any of the U18 Draisaitl looked a lot bigger than other guys who were supposedly his size. I would guess that he's 6'2+ by now. And I disagree with CagedGreat, I don't think the talent level between Bennet and Draisaitl is as substantial as he says.

I'm not sure why there's a bunch of this 6'1" out there for Draisaitl now. Even at the start of the year he was being listed at 6'2".

I think that Draisaitl fits both the Oilers and the Flames and I feel Bennett does as well.
Drasaitl is a big body with a lot of skill. Calgary with him and Monahan as 1-2 is great as having 2 big centres is the way to win in the west. Having said that both players have questionable foot speed. Bennett has great speed and plays with a gritty edge which fits the Flames style and is a nice mix with Monahan. I love the sound of Bennett's compete and think he is the overall better fit for the Flames
ThenOilers need to add some size up front and Nuge and Ganger just don't work. Bennett is a slender 6'1 just like Nuge so it could be said he adds more of the same in Edmonton. Drasaitl is a big body that protects the puck well and potentially can find their scoring wingers with nice set up plays. Bennett fills the need of adding some grit to the Oilers top 6 with his physical play. It seems Drasaitl makes a bit more sense to be the playmaker with Yakupov.
I get the feeling that Bennett and Drasaitl go 3-4 but not sure which one goes 3rd and which goes 4th
There is also the chance that Calgary likes Dal Colle but after listening to Treliving interviews I fully expect calgary to take the center

I find that Elite Prospects tend to be the most up to date with height/weights

if you think draisatl is only 6'1 you probably haven't seen him live before. he looks 6'3 now, closer to 6'3 than 6'1

Adding muscle mass is very difficult as a NHL player... you're looking at around 5000-6000 calories a player must consume in order to add weight at a healthy rate. That's like eating a large pepperoni pizza 4-5 times a day...

I agree that the Oilers should take Draisaitl. He's not nearly as good of a player except he can play next year, where Bennett would be best served spending another year in juniors. He does fulfill one of the areas of need for the Oilers and that is that he isn't easy to push off the puck.
|
You've given him a nickname already? That's cute.

This NHL article has him at 6' 1.75".

Not only was the 6-foot-1.75, 208-pound left-shot center No. 2 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm list of the top North American skaters eligible for the 2014 draft, he's gaining plenty of praise down the stretch.

Generally speaking I like to go to their junior team sites for height and weight but these are teenagers who may still be growing.

Well considering I'm a bodybuilder and take muay thai I eat 5200 calories a day and I find it incredibly easy if you're dedicated, and I'm not getting paid millions to do so lol.
The hardest/tedious part is preparing the meal. They should do everything it takes to put on weight. Or their needs to be better training staff for minor leagues to educate these players on what and how much to eat. I'm guessing in another 10 years most of draft picks will already be 200~ pounds and ripped lol.
Exactly why you see some rookies bench 300 pounds. I guess some players don't understand that you can get better through multiple fascists of the game...speed,strength,intelligence,flexibility,siz e,energy, hormones, equipment.
If I was managing a team everyone would be expected to be actively becoming the best in every single one of those areas.

Bodybuilding is one thing but I bet you would have a harder time putting on the weight if you were doing extreme cardio 5-6 times a week.

Hopefully he can put on the weight and become the next Ronald Petrovicky. That would be great.
