I would have preferred a YouTube video called "Kid who is just like a young Ryan Reynolds interacts with Ryan Reynolds" as I think that would have encapsulated the most amusing part of the movie as it would have saved some time.
But it was mildly amusing.

First time I've seen people walk out of a movie in a while. They must've thought they were in for an arthouse version of 50 shades, looking for some raunch for a girls night out. They realized they were mistaken pretty quickly.
Excellent time piece. It was so very 1979.
If decrepit old people with extraordinarily high libidos freak you out, might want to avoid
But yeah, A24 can just keep pumping these into my veins.
They're saving cinema AFAIC.

Can't wait. Hope they announce a streaming release date soon.
I still have such disdain for the first post of this thread.. every time I open it I smh.
Hereditary pushed the limits of traditional horror and incorporated emotional/visceral elements to inflict a different kind of terror into the audience. And it introduced the world to that A24 atmospheric style that has been unmistakable in every horror title of theirs since.

Just saw it, yeah.... pretty fantastic and unsettling top to bottom. I love A24 so much.
Spoiler!
Did your screening have the trailer for the surprise prequel after the credits? Apparently some screenings do and others don't.

For some reason "The Gods Must Be Crazy" popped in my head this week, haven't seen it in what has to be 30 years. Surprisingly is has kinda held up, it has a certain charm and the comedy bits are goofy but funny. Fun watch after all these year later.

That was a huge cult movie in Vancouver when I arrived in the '80's and I was dragged to it by my now ex wife, it had an almost permanent Friday night showing at one of the theatres through the decade (followed of course by the Rocky Horror Picture Show as the midnight showing) growing up in left wing UK I was hugely anti south African and anti apartheid, the whole film gave off a reek of South African 'laugh at the stupid k*****' (Afrikans slang, not nice)
Watched the recent Norwegian Oscar nomination, dark drama/romance/comedy Worst Person in the World, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is pretty easy to recommend for basically anyone, as it's a well made, entertaining movie that doesn't try to be super deep, but brings up a lot of thoughts and feelings about life and relationships. There were tons of scenes that felt extremely real in that way only indie movies seem to capture, and while at times it meanders a bit, generally the pace is quick enough and the style entertaining enough that even the more Hollywood-oriented viewer isn't likely to get bored.
The story is very slice of life, following the female protagonist through a couple of relationships and jobs as she struggles to feel content in life.
Not a masterpiece, but a great choice for a date night for example, you'll be sure to have lots to talk about after this.

For inspiration I watched a 70's sci-fi "classic" a few nights ago - Silent Running. Thought it was a cool idea for a story and it certainly had a great look to it, but could've been a bit more substantial (and I personally could've done with a lot less Joan Baez). Still worth a look, though. Bruce Dern plays crazy like nobody else, and it's got one of the most beautiful opening sequences I've ever seen:

Look, and feel. I liked the atmosphere they presented.
There also seems to be an overwhelming "quietness" to 70s sci-fi. They tended not to bombard you with a musical score. They opted for subtle or no music.
I watched Silent Running on Puppet Guy's recommendation. His review was accurate. It's an interesting concept but doesn't really go anywhere. It wouldn't surprise me if a variation of it was remade.
