Kakko scratched for the Rangers. Seems to be a healthy scratch

Absolutely not, middling winger who some bozo is going to sign for upwards of 5.5+ (if) he gets around 20 goals and 40 points. I like the guy but there is absolutely zero reason to overpay these type of players in our situation.

As another poster stated, I would second it.
Never once, had I thought Zary was slow or below average etc
His biggest issue at center is the faceoff percentage,
Same thing with majority of the Flames.

If Zary is considered slow, all the D he dekes around must be REALLY slow

Trent Frederic is a C/W, 6'3" and 220lbs, skates well, plays a good two-way game, punishes opponents physically, and is one of the toughest players in the league. He'll get you 30-40 points as well. He's probably not in the right age group for the Flames to consider signing him, and he's American so he wouldn't come here anyway, but there will be teams lining up for him if he goes UFA, and rightfully so.

Zary was once considered to be a player that needed to improve his boots, but Danielle Fujita fixed him up good. Same can be said for Pospisil. Both of them are now amongst the fastest players on the team. There is absolutely no issue with Zary's speed.

Yeah, I mean I totally agree with all of that.. and still whoever wins that bidding war is going to regret it sooner rather than later. I'd love to have a nasty tough as nails 6'6 250 pound blueliner who's under 30 years of age, but I wouldn't want him 30 million over six years either. There is zero reason for a team in the Flames rebuild arc to sign that kind of player to that kind of deal.

I would agree that Conny probably doesn't see him as being in the right age group at this stage of the rebuild.

After some sleuthing, doesn't appear to be a performance issue, then again the entire rangers team has performance issues.
Don't know about trade but I don't believe it's an effort problem on his part.

Don't even know what the Rangers are looking for. Maybe Rasmus fits for them? I'd take kakko as the base for Rasmus but I'd want a good add.

The question is, do the Rangers even know what they want?

I’d add Coronato too. He’s not the fastest but night and day skating skill level from last season.

Sounds like either an impatient owner or a big dressing room problem.

The articles I read, which are probably the same as others read, just seem confused about the decision to scratch Kakko. And that’s odd because the NYR explained Panarin’s absence as injury-related. So, Kakko’s absence does seem like it could be trade-related, especially because of the rumours about the NRY being open for business.

How are Kakko's sideburns?

The Rangers need a middle six winger, that apparently brings something to the table that Kakko doesn't. They are also playing Kreider off-wing in the bottom six, so I honestly don't know what kind of a team that they want to be.
