He's under contract for next season.
And not sure why a few of you have taken the last week of Ramo's play and suddenly think it changes why we might have been looking for another option in goal. Ramo's played well, but with Hiller on the bench we're just as much in need of an upgrade now as we were a few weeks ago. It's fine to think Bernier isn't an upgrade, but if you thought he was a good idea a week ago and have since changed your mind because Ramo's had a good stretch, that's bizarre.

You send him for a guy playing worse hockey than Backlund?

Ramo has settled in. He looks great these days.. Sure he may slip up here and there but don't rock the boat on purpose.. Ride him out.

Hahahaha... not that I'm for that trade but you forgot the green text.
Backlund 12 points, 45.8 FO%
Johansen 22 points, 52.1 FO%
hahahahaha

Now we can potentially trade future 1st round picks, 2nd round picks, Russell, Wideman, Hudler, Poirier, Klimchuk, Hickey, Kylington, Andersson, Arnold, Granlund, Jooris, Backlund.
|
There is literally one thing of value to Columbus in that deal, and that's the 1st! Well maybe Granlund as the 3rd or 4th best part.

If I am Columbus, picks and prospects who are 2 or more years from having NHL impact don't do it for me.
They need as the main piece a player that can impact their lineup right now, they aren't in rebuild mode. They are more in retool mode. Picks and prospects are only there to balance out a trade.

^ I heard Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen somewhere. That would make sense for both teams.
Tough to walk away from Jones though.

Yes, but a little easier when you have Weber, Josi, Eckholm and Ellis.

There has to be a trade in there somewhere. If this guy gets traded, I really think he takes off. I truly feel he's just not happy in Columbus anymore, and its very hard to do great at your job when you're not happy.
|
If you believe the rumors from 2013 the Bruins may have approached the Flames about Seguin and wanted our 1st (Monahan) and Gaudreau. I don't care how good Seguin is that trade would be a loss for the Flames
I wonder if the Oilers would have interest in Johannsen? They could offer Nuge and Yakupov. Chia wants to build a big team and Johanssen brings plenty of size to the lineup

The difficulty for any GM making a deal for Johansen is his heart and his heart.
By that I mean there has been talk from last summer that he was having some issues with a fast heart rate. Notwithstanding medical clearances you would not want this to re-emerge as an issue.
In addition there is the question of his other heart - being his desire and passion for the game and his leadership capabilities. For some reason he is struggling in Columbus and will these issues automatically be resolved in a new city?

Sure Ramo's good play has something to do with my change of mind but mostly I was listening to Corey Hirsch this morning talking about goal tenders confidence issues. Right now Bernier has no confidence while Ramo does. Say we can make a straight swap for Bernier for Hilller, that changes the goalie dynamic once again. Maybe Ramo considers this a threat to his job and he falls off a cliff again. Yeah goalies shouldn't be so fragile in competitive situations, but it seems they are.

Hahahahahahaahahahahaha...
Backlund was a healthy scratch because he was dragging the team down?
Stats aside, Backlund has been more consistent and plays a 200 ft game.
Johansson is getting wake up calls in the press box.
Regardless, that wasn't even my point. We don't need to be spending assets on guys like this. Stay the course.

Should have just multi-quoted. MB.
But I never said Bernier was the better choice over Ramo. Only thing I said was that he's the better choice over a ducks goalie cause the cost to acquire is going to be much less.
Ride Ramo out while he's playing good hockey. He's at the point now where we hope Bernier would get to if he came to the Flames.

I think Nashville wins that hands down. I have seen nothing so far from Seth Jones but a lot of hype about his potential. I think he might be the next Erik Johnson, a good D man in the end but not a franchise D man.

So you're saying Johansson at his bench-worthy worst is better than Backlund at his best?
You're right! That is funny! Sign me up on the Johansson train.

Spin it how you want..
Fact is, Flames don't need a guy who follows the Phil Kessel training regiment. Especially when it will cost more than what we got for Iginla.
Also, that would all but assure Janko signing somewhere else in the summer.

Ryjo right now is Jankos peak. I highly doubt Janko ever becomes the player Ryuo does. Not to mention I don't think that would set anything in stone. Janko could still have a spot in the top 6 if he plays to that level.

Night and day between how he started the year and how he's playing now. Maybe not Norris Trophy caliber quite yet, but 'not even close' is a bit misleading imo. He's playing much, much better.
