God that was awesome. Felt more like a season finale than a new opener with everything that happened.

That was up there with the best walking dead episodes. Every once in a while they have a masterpiece like this which gets me through the dull ones.

I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more of the Terminus back story. They aren't all dead.

Great first episode. But TWD does have a decent track record with season openers, the very first episode of all the best episode of the series in my books. We'll see if they can maintain it this season. By the looks of the trailer though, I'm optimistic for this season.
My only complaint is they wrapped up the whole Terminus thing so quickly. There was some great creepines there and it all got explained almost as an afterthought. Real interesting how they were a good group that lost their morals. But I guess that's better than then stretching it too long ala farm or prison. And as a few peopke have mentioned, we may yet see more of the backstory.
Oh also, I was never too worried for the main characters. A death from a non extra woulda gone a long way to add some real fear. But it was still pretty cool.
Yeah, Carol has been one of my favorite characters since early on, and she just gets better.
The whole 'this guy had a cure' thing bugs me a little. He doesn't seem to be the type of guy who would or could. Not to mention, his explanation seems to be something other people would know about and have tried already. He's basically just talking about a delivery system (which others know about in his own words). Unless I'm wrong, he seems to be missing the biggest part. An actual modified gene or cure to implement. The whole 'with a few modifications' seems like lazy writing to me. Oh well, I'll go with it.
And goody for Morgan! I almost missed that tease at the end. Using the FF on the PVR and all, thinking the show had ended.
So someone refresh my memory, how did Carol and Tyrese know about Terminus and that their pals we're captured? I totally forgot about that part. I don't image they escaped, especially with Judith.

Carol and Tyrese were on their way to Terminus because they thought that some of their group might have headed their after the Governor destroyed the safety of the prison. At the very least it was their hope it would have been a safe place for the kids.
They only knew that their pals were captured this episode when they overheard the guy at the cabin talking on the walkie bragging about how he knew the chick with the sword was going to be trouble and that he wanted the kid's hat after they bled them dry.

I remember the last half of last season bring pretty awesome actually. The episode where Rick beats that dude in the bathroom, the one with the psycho little girl, Rick biting that dude. That episode where Beth gets kidnapped. there were a few Meh episodes but it seemed solid overall.

Some of the ways they were trying to create tension and advance the story were wearing on me a bit. The moment where the scientist guy stopped trying to get their attention, picked up a machine gun, and proceeded to murder the truck kind of soured me for the rest of the season.
Probably unfair, I know, because as you said there were some key and powerful moments that really re-shaped the tone and direction of the show.
As for this episode, I was actually kind of glad they skimped on the Terminus backstory a bit. They tried to humanize these people a little, but it wasn't enough to overcome the pure satisfaction I had every time one of these heartless people-eaters were being eaten by a mindless people-eater.

Ratings are in from last night's premiere, and they're insane. Highest for any episode of TWD ever, with 17+ million total viewers, including almost 9% of all people in North America aged 18-49.

Even Talking Dead had better 18-49 ratings than pretty much everything other than the NFL, Big Bang Theory and Modern Family last week. I can't imagine the kind of profits AMC must be making off it.
And with a 8.7 rating 18-49, TWD might have beaten the NFL head-to-head; which is practically impossible in this day and age.

They "guy with the cure" thing is going to end in a twist of some kind. My guess is the guy has something to do with creating the problem in the first place. His background in the subject seems a little too specific.

Abraham and J.Lo must know what's up since they were talking about when to tell the group something. Either way they don't seem to be trying very hard to make Eugene sound like a normal scientist (like that CDC guy from S01). He sounds a lot more like some basement dweller MMORPG guy that reads a lot of conspiracy blogs and forums and bad fanfic sci-fi.

Yeah. This is over-simplified, but NBC pays around a billion bucks per year for the right to air the Sunday night games (average of about $60 million per week) and they got beat by Walking Dead, with its production cost of $3-4 million per episode.

Ahhh. The speed of that scene confused me somewhat. But how did they know he was talking to someone at Terminus?

Well in part that's because everyone watched the Cowboys/Seahawks game instead, which was the highest rated regular season game in the past few seasons. By the time the Sunday night game was on everyone knew the best game had already finished and that the Eagles were going to beat up on the hapless Giants.
Quote:
The Week 6 NFL national window, featuring Cowboys/Seahawks in 69% of markets, drew a 19.2 overnight rating on FOX Sunday — up 10% from coverage featuring Saints/Patriots last year (17.5) and up 19% from coverage featuring Giants/49ers in 2012 (16.1).
The 19.2 overnight is the highest for any NFL regular season telecast since 2011, when the Week 15 national window drew a 19.5 on CBS. It is also the highest for any Week 6 NFL telecast since at least 1997 — and likely further back than that.
For some perspective, the 19.2 overnight topped every college football since the Texas/USC Rose Bowl in 2006 (22.7), every Major League Baseball game since Red Sox/Cardinals Game 4 in 2004 (19.7) and every NBA game since Bulls/Jazz Game 6 in 1998 (22.9).

Did they change the people in charge of the gore this season?
In seasons past it seemed very computer generated, but in the premiere I noticed it looked a lot more genuine. Actual fake blood and guts instead of CGI. More of a old-school horror movie look.
Anyone else notice that? Or just me?
