Was just talking about this with a co-worker, he said that he could see the oilers taking Joe Levy and the nucks taking Brown. If by some miracle that did happen and at pick #6 the Flames had a choice between Dubois and Tkachuck, who would you pick? I said it would be a very easy choice and take Dubois. Who would you guys take if both were available?

I would go with Dubois, but it wouldn't be an easy choice. Very close.

Dubois. He's closest to being NHL ready and I'm impatient.

Being shoehorned into picking one of Dubois or Tkachuk? Not cool man, my answer would be neither but I'll play anyway.
Dubois because he is a better skater. Even when Tkachuk is at 100% health. Dbois has done more with arguably less talent surrounding him. Lazarev and Svechnikov are great but they're no London Knights squad.

Dubois. Better skater, better defensively, and just drives the play more. Also seems to be more skilled, although Tkachuk may have superior vision seeing the ice.

Stauffer usually has good insights into what Oilers management is thinking. FWIW
Bob Stauffer @Bob_Stauffer
Assuming Matthews and 2 Finns are gone here is my top 5 at #4 for Oilers:
1. Tkachuk
2. Dubios
3. Sergachev
4. Brown
5. Chycrun

Juolevi is not in their top 8? crazy. Stauffer is usually bang on with where they are at. Was he not the guy that broke the Draisaitl preference? And Nurse?
Sincerely, Flames won't likely get a shot at Dubois/Tkachuk. EDM takes tkachuk and Van takes Dubois.

I could see Oilers taking Dubois and Canucks going for Brown. Not super likely but possible.

I had thought that the Chiarelli had said he had liked Juolevi in a different interview - feel like there is lots of smoke and mirrors going on around the draft this year.
Especially with 4 through 10 being somewhat close.

Not 100% sure but I think that tweet is trying to say thats the top 5 available players from Edmontons standpoint. All big physical guys and 2 d-men. Theres no way that person has Brown at 7 over Nylander, Chychrun and Juolevi. Probably just his oilers list.

Pretty much what's going to happen with the Canucks snatching up Dubois with the next pick.

I have a feeling the Oilers like one of the 3 d-men. Forcing vancouver to make the decision between Tkachuk and Dubois. We take the one who drops and miss out on Nylander

I've said it before I think Tkachuk will develop into a Wayne Simmonds/ JVR type player.
Brown I could see being like a RNH. Soft 55 point playmaking center.
Nylander I'm starting to come around on after watching a lot of shift isolation videos. Problem is he doesn't bring any "black and blue qualities".
My final OHL ranking would be:
Tkachuk
Sergachev
Nylander
Chychrun
Brown
Juolevi
Jones
Mcleod
first 6 are incredibly close, I'd be all for trading down if we could pick up a 2nd++

I think the Oilers will almost certainly trade down. If they don't they won't draft a D man at 4.

Hopefully one of the teams picking 7-11 are absolutely in love with someone other than Dubois or Tkachuk. If so, it definetely would make sense to trade down a bit. The Flames might be able to get pretty good value.

Canucks' Benning believes he can replace Jared McCann with fifth-overall pick in the draft:
In reference to this article
"Benning said he was trading from a position of depth (centre) and believes the future top-six forward can be replaced in the upcoming draft with their fifth-overall selection.
"We're going to get either a first-line player or top-four defenceman with that pick," Benning said. "Where we pick at five, that player might need one more year of development in junior. We don't want to rush him. He has a chance to be a first-line player."
After the top three picks — Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, Jesse Puljujarvi — Benning has his eye on two forwards and one defenceman he'd like to snap up.
Best guess on those three prospects: Matthew Tkachuk, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Olli Juolevi."
It sounds like there's a defenceman in the mix, but chances are, they'll take a forward. Sorry if someone already posted on this article.

I wonder if the Oilers take Dubois (50/50 proposition I would imagine between him and Tkachuk) if the Canucks shift to Brown to fill the center void?

I highly doubt the Oil will draft Dubois. I still think they trade down or draft Tkachuk. If they trade down the team drafting 4 will take Tkachuk most likely unless it is the Habs.

Still seems like Vancouver might make a good trading partner with us to swap 5 for 6 seeing as how they are in the early stages of a rebuild (whether they know it or not) and have only one other pick in the top 100 of this draft.
If they are partial to three players at that 5/6 range maybe some desperation on their part to recoup another pick might give them some incentive to swap 5 for 6 with us. We've made a couple trades in the last few years and with our surplus of picks, if the right player is still available at 5 I think it would be a shrewd move if it's a player the Flames are high on.
