There is definitely a lot of reading that can be done about steel vs. aluminium. A lot of the old beliefs about both steel and aluminium are no longer relevant as different alloys have erased many of the differences between them. It all comes down to the alloy and then the frame geometry and tube thickness.

Feeling smart for bringing the bike with fenders today. May be a bit wet for the ride home.

I just came home, it wasn't to bad in the north central area. Could get worse though. Or better.

I kind of like the first few rains of the year. Clean up the dust from the street cleaned roads. And that terrifically fresh smell.

I got fenders on my new bike, booya! The 7yo has joined me at work for the afternoon, and brought her bike to ride home with me. Should be fun.

I got out for my first 100+km ride of the year yesterday and the legs are feeling surprisingly good today.
From McKenzie Towne to a loop around Glenmore Reservoir to loop around Chestermere Lake and back home (with some Fish Creek in between). I was at 99.5km when I pulled up to my house so I did another loop around the block to make sure I got April Fondo on Strava.
Using Zwift and the smart trainer over the winter has done wonders for my fitness and ability to stay in the saddle for longer rides.
The route:

I've been away from cycling for about 5 years now. Decided to take it up again and went for the first ride in a long time yesterday. Only about 10 K or so.
Today, I am feeling all 10 of those kilometers everytime I sit down.
As I recall that has more to do with getting your legs in condition, not toughening up your "sit bones". Am I right?

Sit bones need conditioning also; the only way to do that is time in the saddle.

I remember a few years ago, I hadn't cycled in a loooooong time. Commuted to work (only about 16 k round) and felt really good. Decided to go again the next day, but once my ass hit the seat, it was agony. I think I actually let out a loud squawk and almost bailed on my commute. The first couple minutes were tough but it got better. I don't think it's the sit bones, per se. it's more the muscles around said sit bones.

After waffling for about 15 minutes I went for a ride in the light rain this morning. Turned out to be a pleasant morning. Wound up riding thru fish creek all the way to Anderson road - about 40 k round trip from my house in new Brighton.
Lots of joggers jogging all over the pathway. I respect that jogging is hard work, but stay one one side of the yellow line please.

And take the headphones off if you can't hear me ringing my bell or yelling at you.

I find this an issue early in the spring but sorts itself out as we go.

Hmm, thinking the winter bike comes out again for tomorrow and maybe Thursday with that snow/rain mix in the forecast. Was thinking about just how slick the tires are on the new bike, a little more moisture on the paths and I could see how being comfortable with the hybrid tires from all my earlier riding could put me in a bad position going faster on the new bike.

Was looking at getting out on my road bike this afternoon. Are you able to cycle up the switchbacks at COP or do you need a pass?
