At this point in the campaign, there's still a massive "hey I've heard of that person" support for candidates in polling. Now that Nenshi has broken from the pack a bit, he will certainly garner media attention as a contender giving him much more exposure and quite likely a lot more support. Also, this will likely prompt candidates like Hehr, Hawkesworth, Stewart and others to drop out soon, clarifying the actual choices a lot.

Disappointed with Nenshi's percentage, but 3rd place has to be considered a success at this point. Knocking on doors I found that not many had heard of him, but of those that had most were at least considering him. He's now the leading choice for the anti-Higgins, anti-McIver vote, and I'm glad this poll is out so we can work that angle.

^ keep in mind the method of this poll, which was land lines. Nenshi has a big group of younger, highly engaged supporters, many of whom don't use land lines. The Zinc research had him at 12%, which was scientific but used online methods.

Can't say I'm surprised by the results. Had to laugh how almost polar opposite it was compared to the CP one

Kinda skews the numbers when the Herald shows 40% but in much smaller font that it's actually 40% of decided voters with 44 undecided.
Perception is everything.

I'm not sure what you mean? The results are for decided voters, but the undecideds are largely a group who won't vote. If by chance they cme to the polls it's not likely to be in large enough figures to move things drastically.

Didn't the Calgary Sun run a nice, big front page article on McIver yesterday? Sweet, way to stay neutral, Sun. If brain-dead people didn't already know that trash paper was biased, they do now.
Just say NO to McIver.

For those who live in the deep SE and would be interested in having a Nenshi yard sign, please PM me as I have many available for pick-up from McKenzie Town (save you a trip to the north).
Alternatively, I can arrange to deliver a sign to your residence if you live in the area (Douglasdale to Mahogany).

Our CP poll got a mention as one of Team Nenshi's key positive factors going forward

What I think this city needs is a candidate (or better yet, a slate of candidates) stand up and unequivocably denounce Edmonton Oilers.

Why make it public? Who someone is voting for is entirely a personal matter. If it is public I certainly won't be voting.

Disappointed is pretty harsh, no? Or maybe naive?
I am not there yet but leaning to support McIvor because honestly who else is there if
- you are pretty happy with Calgary as is, as the city you grew up in or moved to
- you think city hall has a spending and priority issue more than a vision issue
- the only vision you need is one where your kids can safely play street hockey on the quiet road in the front, or play on the swings in the back.
I think it's pretty simple and deep rooted stuff that so far no one spoken credibly to, if at all. Higgins has dabbled in it but nothing to capture imagination and has no record. McIvor is hardly inspiring but at least has the Dr No record (a plus to many, even if it pisses some off).
I know there are (at least) a hundred or so CPers with a social agenda who won't like the assertion, but I think the average person just wants to take their kids to practice, and have 'The City' fade into the background. Be there, but be efficient and try and stay the heck out of the way.
If you think there are candidates that speak to that then be disappointed in them, because they've done a piss poor job of selling it so far.
Who knows. Still 4 weeks left.

The critical issue right now is that city hall spent stupidly and like drunken sailors and had no accountability. For some it might not be an issue, but it is a severe issue and McIver has done a good job of bringing it to light and bludgeoning his opponents over the head with it.
I don't really want to vote for Doctor No, not because of the No thing, but because I think every single member of the City Council needs to be kicked to the street and we need new enthusiasm and ideas in City Hall. We also don't need arrogant pricks like Bronco, and Hawkeswork and others who forgot a long time ago that they need to answer to the voters.
So I'm torn because none of the other candidates have run good campaigns or stepped to the forefront.
My vote is still for sale, but it won't be cheap.

McIver's work to broker a back door deal on plan it instead of trying to work something out that helps make this city great instead of huge keeps me in fear of what will happen if he wins. It depends on the types of people who end up making up the rest of council, but his leadership scares me.

McIver rails against the $25 million dollar bridge, but supports the unsustainable, low density growth patterns that require new infrastructure that gets paid for by the city. If you want someone who will solve the spending issue, you need to look elsewhere.

I'm not sure how Ric McIver has credibility being a "fiscal hawk".
- he's charged drycleaning to the City (small amount but shows poor judgement and little regard for being fiscally responsible to the City)
- he promotes zero-based budgeting but approves the police budget with little fight
- he's been on council for nine years and only now decides to deal with the poor controls and processes in place regarding how the city spends our money and tenders its contracts
I believe corporate governance, culture, and internal controls start with the tone at the top. If city council and city processes are broken, like a corporation, the mayor and the aldermen (CEO's VP's etc) are a large part of the problem. Like CaptainCrunch I'd like to see fresh people and ideas voted in.
