When I was called in for my interview at my current work, the HR person made a point to say "please don't dress up". As a college student, I couldn't help but try my hardest to look top notch, but as soon as i walked in, i pulled off the tie and unbuttoned the top of the shirt as I looked around...very casual place to work. I was still "way overdressed"

Same here, when my current boss called me to come in he actually said "If you wear a suit jacket or tie to the interview you will not be hired. Really, there is no need to get dressed up". He did give a small laugh, but I don't think it's too far from the truth.

Haha! I got sent home for coming in with a tie on. Although my GF likes the tie look. Then again, she also likes my stubble.

You didn't get sent home. Not actually, did you? Couldn't you just take it off?

Jeez, I wear ties all the time, even casually on occasion. No ones ever told me to take it off.

I think the problem is that ties are not part of the accepted dress code as per the CBA for Local 155 McDonald's Workers.

It was my first day and my boss was in a joking mood, so yeah, paid day off and a mild 'dont do that again or other people will think they have to wear one.'

Apparently my employer and ties do not get along well. He sets the tone for office attire. If he hates ties, then no ties it is.

I was an ass and wore a bowtie to work once. My boss laughed in my face. Whatever. Those things are hard to tie.

You mean there are ones that don't just clip on?

I think learning how to tie a bowtie is essential to white middle-class pride.

Wearing a bowtie in everyday settings would suit the peter12 persona very well, I'd think.

Does it make up for not shaving?

- Get close to the Mirror, and get all those hairs. I personally shave vertical. Meaning I go up and down only, never side to side. I usually have to shave the problem areas twice, even re-applying foamy.
- Heat up a Towel and hold it on your face till the heat dissipates.
General douchbaggery of this response aside I would like to address why you feel that how you shave your facial hair (that is most likely different than mine) in such a way that it is you have a nice smooth shave (with skin that has a sensitivity most likely much different than mine)...

1) I am a water waster, I do not plug the sink, I shave with the tap on. I find this makes it much easier to get the hair out of my razor between strokes. (heh.... Strokes)

2) I shave after I shower. I find this softens the hair to a point where I do not get any where near the skin irritation on my neck I used to when I shaved before I got into the shower.

3) I use one of these, it is a godsend.

4) I shave with the grain of the hairs on my face. This greatly reduces irritation (although someone like you is probably irritated all the time so this wont affect you) and the possibility of ingrown hairs.

5) Any leftover shaving foam is washed off with a warm facecloth.

I also try to save crunching one out in the morning till I am work, because hey, if they are going to pay me to dump, why not??

Why not multi-task to save time and shave while brushing your teeth while crunching?

Got to go bold on bold, for sure. Say a nice bold striped bow tie with a bold gingham shirt of some kind.

I just got back from a conference in the USofA and that's the big look for WASPs down there.

At a couple hotels I stayed at in Italy a few years ago, the toilet was right in the shower.

The s***ter/shower combo is something I have wanted in my house ever since.

Brooks Brothers has opened a store in downtown Calgary! Great store for business and dress clothes if you've ever had a chance to check them out in NYC or other large financial centers. Says a lot to how Calgary is growing in the business community with a store like this now in the core. I am looking forward to checking it out.
