I am meh on Unibroue because I think they all taste the same.
Obviously, they don't taste 'the same' but for all intents and purposes, they are fermented with the same yeast, in the same style and have roughly the same mouth feel and body. Too medicinal, tastes like under fermented homebrew with a load of bottle conditioned carbonation.
It wouldn't surprise me if they use the same yeast in each of their major commercial offerings.

I never had a beer from New Zealand, so I picked up a 6-pack of these when I was browsing in the beer store
Very tasty, I'll definitely be grabbing more

There's an excellent brewery in New Zealand called Epic. I recommend.

It's summer, so it's a good time for American-style pale ales. Sierra Nevada is a favourite, but I have to say that I'm impressed with Alley Kat Full Moon.
I am also a huge fan of American-style IPAs. Stone Ruination is awesome, and Bear Republic Racer 5 is up there as well. Ballast Point Sculpin IPA is probably my all-time favourite, though.
After a few years hiatus, I have improved my home-brewery and look forward to brewing a pale ale this weekend, and maybe a Stone Ruination clone next weekend. Can't wait!

Good to hear that Smokey didn't catch them.

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't go gaga over Unibroue brews. I completely understand that they are highly rated & enjoyed by many... but I just plain don't like their flavour profile.
I suspect it's the citrusy/grapefruit/clove taste coming from the yeast, but whenever I try one it just triggers the "yuck" part of my pallet. I feel the same about most "white" ales as well. Just not to my taste.

Yeah, that Kolsch 78 is pretty nice. Leaves my mouth feeling dry and full of spittle though.
I am currently drinking a
Czech Mate by Paddock Wood
Really tasty. Thanks J epworth kendall (sp) for the recommendation!
If any of you are traveling through the lower mainland this summer, I highly recommend any beers by R&B Brewing. They are the original Vancouver microbrew and their speciality seems to be really complex beers without much in the way of a single taste profile. Great non-hoppy pale ale, great bitter IPA, best Cream Ale I think i"ve ever had and a really nice ESB that they call East Side Bitter. If you like Wheat Ales, their Sungod Wheat Ale just won gold at the Canadian Brewing awards for a filtered wheat beer.
Probably extremely limited availability in Alberta, but, if you're coming through the lower mainland, pick a couple up. They all come in 650ml bombers and the cream ale comes in 6pack bottles. They also sometimes fill growlers, which is what I'll be diving into after this aforementioned Czech Mate.
Cheers to summer beers.

Paddockwood has a new IPA out, Yakima.. I believe it is 5.9% and is a West Coast IPA (USA) style beer.
They have it in bottles at the brewery and on tap at their brew pub.. I doubt this one makes it outside of the province, but if you are passing through Toon Town I highly recommend stopping in for a pint... or three. Great stuff.

I need suggestions. I'm a big beer snob and haven't found a beer in a while that has blown me away...
I like strong dark ales (not stouts) that are rich and sweet, fruity IPA's with a hoppy finish (also prefer stronger abv) and many varieties of lambics (actually prefer the not very sweet here).
What is new and exciting in these categories?

I like micheladas, but like other mixed drinks, you need to make them yourself to your own tastes.

This is my favorite new (to me) beer. The 1516 is decent as well, but this Hopped variety was a nice find.
