Strictly a rumor at this point, but interesting nonetheless:
Quote:
One rumor has the Browns trading Brady Quinn and Shaun Rogers to Denver for Jay Cutler and a third-round draft choice.
|
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...popular_i.html
Rogers allegedly wants out of Cleveland, Cutler allegedly wants out of Denver, Quinn has run the Pats style offense. Quinn is a poster boy for Denver based EAS...
Who knows?

My buddy gets ESPN and was telling me today of another rumour that the Vikings and Broncos are working on a deal which could send Cutler to Minny. McDaniels has created a monster.

I wonder what that kind of deal would look like. Obviously a first rounder plus other peices.
As a Vikings fan I would not be opposed to this AT all.
Just means we'd have to sign a guard and/or tackle as well.
But I bet it amounts to nothing at all.

Yikes! McDaniels is going to be the most unpopular man in Colorado. How could this have spiraled out of control so quickly?

There are alot of Patriots haters out there if you think a 2nd round pick is too much to give up on a shot at a good QB. Also, they essentially get him for 2 years since he will still be restricted after next. What do you get for a 2nd round pick in the NFL - look at last years draft and tell me who you wouldnt have given up for a shot at a starting QB. Piloi has watched Cassel since he has been in NE, I would assume he knows more about they guy than us on a Flames forum.
Great signing of Dawkins, likely released after 2 but still great. I have always loved him on the Eagles.
Hadnt heard about the trade requested by Cutler, if true makes him look like a true hypocrite. Things will die down, and they will go on. People are making this out to be alot more than what it is. I still think it was other teams, specifically TB who's new coach's son was connected with Cutler are the ones who started the talks. What is Denver going to do, say "No, Cutler is untouchable, we made the playoffs with him last year, oh wait, we didnt - what were you offering again?"

No it isn't to much for a good QB. Still if you already have one why waste the pick? The worst thing about Cassel is the $14,000,000 price tag. That is absolutely ######ed for a QB who, according to Chiefs coach Todd Haley, "will be competing for the starting job". I have looked around to see what Cassel will actually be paid and from what I can find $14,000,000 for this season is the number. The Chiefs are currently under media lock down so it is really hard to find any info on what the contract status of Cassel really is.

From Denverbroncos.com....
Head Coach Josh McDaniels and Jay Cutler will meet next week when Cutler returns to Denver from Nashville.
"The Denver Broncos are not trading Jay Cutler. Period," Broncos spokesman Patrick Smyth said.

ESPN expands on the above...

Looks like the worst may be over.
Still don't see why McDaniel's even entertained the idea of bringing a $14M inferior QB in. Stupid beyond belief.

Culter is not someone you trade unless you get a young superstar QB yourself or have one as a back up potential wise. I don't see any of this being logically true in the league. That is unless we get Brady or Peyton Manning.

$14.65 Million.
That is the value of the franchise tag, and since he signed and submitted that to the league, that is a guaranteed amount for the upcoming year.
Now he can sign a new contract with the Chiefs and change the conditions; something like get that 14.65 as a signing bonus then have a more sane contract for 5 years to spread out the signing bonus over the term. But I can't imagine an agent anywhere letting him sign anything that will guarantee anything less than $14.65 Million, Pioli just needs to get the cap hit spread out over more years.

Interesting talk on ESPN radio this morning. Talking about the KC/NE trade and that the reason the Patriots only got a 2nd rounder is because....thats all they wanted. They didnt want a 1st rd pick because of the stupid money that those guys end up getting before ever setting foot on an NFL field.
Belichik values 2nd rd picks much more than 1st's for this reason....the money you have to pay is often 1/4 of what a1st gets.

Mortensen was making this point yesterday when discussing the possibility of Cutler going to Denver. He said Denver doesn't want any part of the #1 pick.
If you think about it, ridding yourself of $14M in salary offsets any value loss. I still don't know why they franchised him.

Peter King was talking about this on Monday:
Quote:
The eighth pick in the draft last year, defensive end Derrick Harvey, got $17.47 million guaranteed in a contract averaging $4.6 million a year. In essence, in the way the NFL pays rookies, the eighth pick's compensation is equivalent to the combined pay of the 23rd, 34th, 47th and 58th picks. Insane. Imagine if someone tells you they'd trade the eighth pick in the draft for a lower first-round pick and three second-round picks.

They franchised him so they could trade him. Look at all the interest, Cassel had more sutors than Haynesworth. Smart move by the Patriots. I'm sure Belichek knew that his former staff would be falling all over themselves trying to aquire Cassel.

Broncos signed LaMont Jordan today. Guess that means Arrington is off. I like this one better anyway, but again I don't think you address tailback through free agency unless it's a guy like Buckhalter who probably isn't going to come in and be your every down back. I hope McDaniels has looked at what the Broncos already have and is willing to give a guy like Torain a real shot.
I have my doubts though.

NOT!
We've had no backup since Plummer's last year. Finally, a decent backup!
Not a word at Broncoscountry.com....strange because they've been breaking everything early this week.

Yeah, nothing on ESPN.com either. Maybe it was a rumor posted as fact?
