Ok, this is rather insane: The Jays comeback last night was the seventh time this season that a team has scored at least five runs in the 9th to score a come from behind win.

Weak startig pitching leads to overworked bullpens.

Yeah, I think that has a huge effect. How many teams are being forced to go to their bullpens in the 5th and 6th innings every night around the bigs. Lots. Although theres some pens like the White Sox that have no excuse, and still suck.

ha, true. there just isn't enough major league talent out there to supply every team with solid pitching.

once again, the jays can't string together more than 3 in a row. oh well, that De Jong kid looked great, super movement. 3 k's in a row, not a bad start.

The Toronto Blue Jays moved right-hander Josh Towers back into the starting rotation Thursday after designating Tomo Ohka for assignment.
...
They now have 10 days to trade or release him.
"It wasn't working out, make an adjustment," Gibbons said. "He understood."
Catcher Gregg Zaun will be activated before Friday's game in Los Angeles versus the Dodgers to fill Ohka's spot on the 25-man roster. Zaun has been out since breaking his right thumb April 24 in Boston when he was struck by an Eric Hinske foul tip.
...
his (zaun) arm isn't ready but his bat is and with the Blue Jays facing six interleague games at National League parks, they wanted an extra player on the bench.
"He's fine with the bat," said Gibbons. "We need his bat."

Who else is going to step into the 5th spot? Thomson has been garbage in AAA lately, Zambrano is at best equal to Towers and still has questions about his arm health. Towers has been pitching well out of the pen lately and deserves the spot until Chacin can get back.

Jays selected a High School SS, Kevin Ahrens, at #16 in the draft today.
They also picked at #21 and got J.P. Arecibia, 1B/C out of Tenessee. link

i don't care who. when he's on, he's okay, when he's off, the jays lose by 8.

Frustrating to see the 2nd best pitcher in the draft fall to #27 and watch the Jays pass on him twice, for the signing difference of roughly 2 million on probably either of their picks.
But you're willing to throw crazy money at mediocre starting pitching in the off season.

Here is a short blurb from espn.
Ahrens' bat will take him as far as he can go. As a switch-hitter, he has a good approach at the plate. He's more powerful from the right side. He has a strong arm, but he projects more a third baseman. Arenciba is a big, strong, right-handed hitting catcher with average arm strength and sound receiving technique. His accuracy falls off on balls away from the center of his body. He's not a good hitter in that he pulls off the ball and fails to cover the outer half of the plate. He struggles on breaking balls. He only hits enough to likely be a third catcher.

Here's a pretty good insight into the Jays picks
http://www.battersbox.ca/article.php...70607112131784
Ahrens is similar to Chipper Jones except he's not as fast.
Arencibia is more or less crap
Cecil has a lethal slider, but nothing much else. Could be a good pitcher if he develops other pitches
Jackson is a great pick. He'll be the SS in 2-3 years. Is a Boras client which means $$
Magnuson is Canadian from Vancouver. 6'7 don't know much
Tolisano will probably be forced to be a catcher because he doesn't have the tools to be good defensively anywhere else...
Eiland is all potential, and won't be a jay for at least 5 years, but he could definitely be worth the wait.
Farina is a relief pitcher.... big deal
Mills is a player they drafted last year but decided to draft again.... Career potential is reliever
Rzepczynski could be a middle of the rotation type guy.
More or less they all suck except the first guy.

LOL, 1 day after the draft and some of them are already write off....
21 Arencibia, JonathanU TennesseeCR/R6'01"2101986-01-05JR
Hitting Ability: He is all about the bat. Arencibia profiles as an offensive-minded catcher
Power: He showed plus raw power in BP, but didn't show much during the games over the weekend. The cold weather probably didn't help.
Running Speed: Arencibia is athletic for a catcher, but running is not his strongest tool.
Arm Strength: Arencibia's strongest defensive tool, his arm strength is slightly above-average.
Fielding: Arencibia's overall defensive play was a tick below average, but he should be able stay behind the plate.
Physical Description: Arencibia is a strong, athletic catcher.
Medical Update: Healthy.
Strengths: His bat. He has plus power potential and has shown an advanced approach at the plate.
Weaknesses: His defense. While he can throw well, it won't be his glove that will carry him through to the Majors.
Summary: Heading into the year, the Tennessee backstop was on the short list of top college catchers in the draft class. A nagging back injury has really hampered his production and given scouts some cause for concern. Still, he’s got some track record and has performed very well for Team USA in the past. He’s no longer in the first-round mix, but still should go in the first few rounds.
