39 years ago today, on Friday Feb 13, the first Black Sabbath album was released. Nice.

Took a few listens to the new Hip track at their website. I actually like the song, but there is something that has been bothering me since their last album...and that is Bob Rock...he overproduces everything to hell. I really can't stand him producing the Hip.

Enjoying Animal Collective lately but they do have a lot of tracks that could barely be defined as music. A lot of it, though, is just good pop music. I really like "Fireworks" and "For Reverend Green" from Strawberry Jam. Very catchy and original stuff.

Everytime I hear that song it reminds me soo much of the Breeders sound from the 90's. Good song though! If you like that one you should check out NME's website they had the entire "The Joy Formidable" new CD for free download yesterday. Not sure if it is still there but it is really good! Also NME has been playing http://www.thunderheist.com/ lately along with Wintersleep. Canadian indie is leaking!

Taylor Hanson and Bun Carlos in the same band? Good grief, who in the world has even thought of that?

Propagandhi's new album out March 10th

http://propagandhi.com/supporting-caste/

I've already done preorder, CD and LP. Have the album on my mp3 player now and it's brilliant as expected. These guys never fail to deliver, this album puts them firmly in my top 5 bands of all time.

Prefix Magazine
There’s a certain history-capturing aspiration here, as if the album's purpose wasn’t just for charity, to move records, or for Dessner to get together with his pals to compile an album but to provide a musical time capsule that in 20 years could allow younger generations to get into indie rock from the early 21st century. If that was how compilation albums were solely judged, Dark Was the Night would be the gold standard.

Joel Plaskett has a new record coming out March 24th: Three

Quote:
Ambitious new album THREE in stores on March 24, 2009
Joel Plaskett will hit the road this spring in support of his new solo recording Three.
A three disc set containing 27 songs; Three will be released by MapleMusic Recordings on March 24 and is Joel’s most ambitious project to date. Produced and recorded in his own studio in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, the recording was mixed in Texas with the help of pal Gordie Johnson.
Recording artists Rose Cousins and Ana Egge – along with Joel’s dad, Bill Plaskett, are all featured prominently on the new recording and will join Joel on the road for the Three Tour. Shows in Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa will also include Joel’s band, The Emergency.
First single: Through & Through & Through

Joel's last album Fashionable People rocked my world, it's one of my favourite albums. The man is like the definition of Canadian rock.

This sounds more like a reality show, where they're stuck in a house, and hilarity and drama ensues.

Queensryche is releasing their new CD American Soldier on March 31st. Another political commentary, no doubt. I know there are a few fans of 'The Thinking Man's Metal Band' here.

New Lamb of God album out today, Wrath. The single "Contractor" or what ever it's called is a pretty good track.

I'm listening to "Isis Unveiled" from Trail of Dead's new album Century of Self which comes out tomorrow. (Mar 3)

It's pretty damn good. The first couple of tracks I'm hearing sound like a marked improvement over So Divided, which (for reasons I can't really articulate) did not have the staying power their past albums have had. Maybe it just wasn't a very good album. This sounds promising, though.

The new Von Bondies album is garbage. I don't know it compares to any of their previous work since I'd never heard of them before.

This looks like a winner - Neko Case, Middle Cyclone:

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti.../middlecyclone

http://www.pastemagazine.com/article...e-cyclone.html

While M. Ward, Garth Hudson and members of Giant Sand, Los Lobos and Calexico turn up to round off the album’s obtuse edges, this is Case’s show, her storytelling remains the clear centerpiece around which the tones and textures shift.

Less of a departure and more of a confirmation and deepening of everything she’s been exploring over the last 10 years, Case has never sounded quite so compelling as a storyteller, unleashing the full range of her humor, defiance, and despair.

The charity CD features artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, and Paul McCartney, each of whom picked one of their classic songs to be sung by such musicians as TV on the Radio, Elbow, Beck, Lily Allen, and Franz Ferdinand.
