I was wondering somehting the other day as well. Ryan Roberts debuted for the Jays on Sunday, he's covered in tatoos. The announcer said if he was a pitcher, he'd have to wear long sleeves? Is this true and if so, what's the reasoning?

Well the Jays decided to go into the tank just before I got to finally see them live. I left on saturday morning and since then it's just been downhill. My god is it ever hot in New York! Game last night it was 36. Yankee Stadiumn defintley lives up to the hype, monument park is simply amazing. However it does not take long before you hate Yankee fans. As they give A-rod a standing O for his first at bat then follow by booing him like crazy when he grounds out. Yankee fans also seem to be obsessed with the fact they have won more championships then the Red Sox as it's plastered everywhere. As for the game, well at least I can say I saw a John macdonald RBI!! That was about it, Cat just missed a homer in the 7th to tie it up after that you knew it was over. Zaun lost it in the dugout after his lineout to the pitcher, you can tell how much this guy wants it. Tickets we're pretty kick ass just about 15 rows up from first base and luckily we sat behind two fans from Montreal. Hopefully the Jays bats awake tonight, should be intresting as I have tickets in the bleachers.

Distracting the batter/hiding the ball. Heck these guys will do almost anything to make themselves better. I could see a pitcher trying for an edge getting a couple baseballs tattooed on his arm to make it more difficult for the batter to pick up the pitch. I believe theoretically the umps can require the pitcher to remove necklaces if they believe it is distracting.
I know when I took umpire training (fastball, a long time ago) eny jewelery was supposed to be removed, even earring studs. I always thought that was going a bit far, until last season in my slow pitch league (called the "Beer & Pizza" league) - a lady playing second took a bad bounce and it pushed the stud in her lip through the lip. It was ugly. And the ball wasn't hit all that hard.

Glad today's game was played in the afternoon so I didn't have to watch it.
Too bad........early in the season the team was so fun to watch and I made sure I tried to catch every game on TV.
Now......it's getting depressing. Ugh.

These series has shown that the Jays are still a large step away from the Yankees and Bosox. Time to start looking ahead to next season...and to me what this season has shown is the value of a deep rotation. At the beginning of the season we also said that Halliday-Burnett-Chachin-Lilly-Towers would be solid if things went right.
Well...
Doc's been doc. No prob there
Burnett has been injured and then largely inadequate since he's been back. That contract could really be an albatross on this organization for the next 5 years.
Chachin will end up missing about half the season
Towers was so bad he couldn't stay in the majors
Lilly has probably met expectations overall.
Bottom line is you can trot out guys like Markham and Janssen in two spots in your rotation and expect to compete. This was the main reason why the Jays couldn't knock off an extended hot streak....just enough not quality starters.
One more year JP is what you get from me to make this team a contendor.

Well first it was Shea, now its Molina. I was wondering myself why Zaun has been getting a bunch of starts lately.
http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/a...=.jsp&c_id=mlb
I think there are some serious issues within the dressing room right now and maybe Gibbons is not the right guy for the job.

Well this season is getting worse isn't it. Strange comments though:
""I'll never disrepect Zaun. He deserves to play, too," said Molina, who also said he wasn't angry at Jays manager John Gibbons. "But I was expecting to play more. I was expecting to play every day. In Anaheim, I would play five out of six, or six out of seven games.""
So if he's not made at Gibby who's he mad at?
Truth be told I always envisioned him being a one year player for the Jays, and dear lord he can plug up the base paths when he gets on. If he doesn't come back next year no biggie in my mind.

I've been disappointed with Molina this year. He looks fat and out of shape, he runs the base paths like my 60 year old mom. Zaun has been great. He used the acquisition of Molina as a motivator to play his ass off. Benji needs to STFU and play.

Couldn't agree more, Molina is so out of shape he reminds of the fat kid in little league who would have to hit it to the wall to get a single, ok for a kid but this guy is pretending to be a professional. Well we'll see how J.P. spins this season, he has to get some pitching and try and find a patsy to take the Burnett contract before the Toronto media crucifies him (Jeff Blair's blog on the G&M website), tall order.

I think that is on the list of 90% of teams, if not all.

Flash back to about 2 1/2 weeks ago and it was hard not to get excited over the Jays playoff chances. Then one of the worst slumps in the last 7 years. I have not 100% percent given up on this year, however as most people I don't see the Jays getting hot enough to win the WC.
However, I'm really liking the Hillenbrand deal now, while he's batting .269 for the Giants, Accardo has really looked good of late. Since his first apperance against the Yankees, he has yet to allow a run. I've also been impressed by League who got a 4 inning save allowing no hits against the Orioles monday. Two young arms that can really help the pen for years to come. Showenweis is a free agent this year and it's gonna be great to see him go.

Burnett pitched probably his best game as a Jay tonight.......10 Ks.
Also a nice game by Johnny Mac. Anytime he hits a HR it's time to celebrate!!
Be nice to see the Jays go on a nice tear here for a bit and get back in the race.Their pitching lately has been great, let's all hope they can keep it up.

too funny, I've seen every HR hit my Johnny Mac this year (all 3 of them) and the team is always so happy for him. Maybe Burnett has been reading all the crap about his pitching and decided to do something about it. Hope it continues.

Accardo had another 1,2,3 inning tonight. Burnett's stuff was just sick tonight. If the Jays could get within striking distance 3-5 back in the Al East with a ton of games against the Yanks and Boston In September they would have a chance.

Well was just channel surfing and stopped on MLB on Fox, caught Ken Rosenthal talking about how Vernon Wells declined to discuss a contract extension with the Jays and that he will most likely be traded in the off-season. If that's true, then it really sets the Jays back quite a bit...

Probably not much choice though. The consensus seems to be that he wants to head to his hometown of Texas and play with his best friend Michael Young.
Really, the best way to handle this to maximize return is to trade him in the off-season.

Too bad the Jays had Young at one point in time, too.
Anywho, I wonder what they could get back from Texas?
A while ago, there were hot rumours of a Wells-Texieria trade, but with Overbay at 1st, do you do it? Also heard a Blalock for Wells trade, but with Glaus there....
Be great if they Jays could get some top notch pitching. Likely some will want some middle IF help (2nd and SS), but I kind of like Hill and Adams in the long run.
Cheers!

With Lilly probably gone to free agency then I think you focus on getting someone for your rotation back.
Perhaps Reed Johnson has done enough to warrant a shot at being a full time player next season. Assuming Cat comes back (I think he will) you then have him platoon with a kid in left (JF Griffin or someone else), Reed in centre, and Rios in right.
Of course you are going to miss Wells glove and stick, but I wouldn't worry too much about finding an outfielder...if they are going to trade him I'd like to see pitching coming back.

Another nice game for the Jays pitching staff today as they win 4-0. They had a lot of help as the Jays turned a bunch of DPs.
Sure is a lot more fun when you get some decent pitching!!
They've won the first 3 of a 10-game road trip........can they still get into the race?
