Even if Ras is only interested in signing long term with Vegas you can still have teams bid on Ras as a rental. If Vegas doesn't have as attractive of assets then you aren't really missing out on much. This of course depends on if there is strong demand for his services as a rental.

If you get a first, it's likely going to be a late first no matter who you trade with. Even if you sell him as a rental, the team that acquires him is likely to be a contender looking to improve, not a bottom dweller.

I think that's about the best we can hope for at this point.

It’s also just pretty standard market value for a guy like Andersson. I see no issue with that sort of return, if we get below that I’ll probably feel the same as I did with the Hanifin return. If all we can get is a 1st, it’s fine, but below market value and a weak return.

Trevor Connelly and Jakob Ihs-Wozniak have been mentioned. I also like Vegas’ 3rd round pick in 2025, Mateo Norbert, a left-handed centre whom Byron Bader had ranked at the end of the first round. He is a very young for his draft year, an August birthday, and he had 67 points in 57 games, a 27.4 NHLe. I’d take a shot on Norbert too.

So, I’d say 2 of Connelly, Ihs-Wozniak and Norbert + the 27 1st.

That time was last year up to the trade deadline this past season with Anderson. He's now seeing the consequences from holding off. It is still salvageable to get a good return, but it's certainly more challenging.

When this similar situation comes up again, maybe third time will be a charm for Craig?

Did he not learn from the Lindholm trade, either? Same situation, but got a very solid return.
