It seems pretty obvious that neither the Flames or Andersson want this to drag out and I doubt most of the 'buyers' want that either. If you look at the teams that are working to come out of their respective rebuilds, they all will want Andersson before the season starts so he can help their playoff push all season long.

Even the teams that are in Win-Now mode will look at Andersson's contract and retention options and feel that they should try to get him at the start of the season instead of as a trade deadline acquisition.

My expectation was that the trade would happen on July 1st with free agent frenzy so the trade could happen with an extension in place. However, with the rumours ramping up, I am thinking one of the teams willing to part with their top 10 draft pick is going to snag him on Friday.

Tkachuk was actually the first(in the cap era?), and maybe the only actual sign and trade. Most of them are traded, but the team trading for the player is allowed to negotiate with the player beforehand, so the player is signed immediately after the trade.

As a side note, I thought the Flyers trading Jeff Carter to the Kings was done in bad faith. They've done it after signing him to a contract with a no trade, but traded him before the new contract kicked in. That's a scenario the GM should probably avoid.

He went to the Blue Jackets.

That's the Jackets deal right? Not the Kings.
Which is why eventually CBJ had to flip him to LA because he was so pissed off.

Not sure it was bad faith per se - more like get Carter and Richards away from the team (and each other)

I am biased about Ryker, so I'd be all for that.

Isn't Ryker more of what we already have to some degree?

He would easily slot in as the #4 in our group as Andersson's replacement, so I would argue no. Sounds like we'd be looking for a top 4 stopgap while Parekh eases in.

I would personally craft Conroy a statue if he got that deal

My mistake, I stand corrected . I just remembered that he ended up in LA and mixed it up.

I think Ryker's upside is as a #2

Could definitely see him and Parekh clicking, if that pairing ever came to fruition.

Actually, I guess I meant a #1, who's really a #2

He'd instantly be the best LHD in the entire organization, IMO. I rate him above Bahl.

I mean those two players serve very different roles. Not sure they compare.
That's my point. I like Evans. But he's another somewhat under-sized, offensive dman.
It's just not an area of need that i would prioritize.

Having him start the season on the team wont be bad IMO. Contract year, hes not going to play like ####e.

Risk of injury supercedes anything else. They're not coming to an agreement on a extension, move him asap.
