I think it says more about coaching really. Why play a regular 28 minutes even if your other options suck? To get the important 2 points?

What a strange decision.

My thoughts too, it's just poor coaching. Why are you trying to win when you should be trying to evaluate other guys?

Once it was 4-0 I would have given the top guys the night off and tried to see what the others can do, but as usual in Edmonton they care more about optics and looking goof than competently running a franchise.

I can only imagine, like everything they do, its from their corrupt jerkoff weirdo owner on down to the coaches.

My goodness, Basha does NOT look like an 18 year old rookie in his first preseason game. The kid has poise out the wazoooo.

How much rust would a guy that played 2 months ago have anyways. No only is pointless to play someone that much, you risk injury sending him out every other shift.

That team is f'n weird.

The "throw Coronato" into every trade guys hopefully are starting to rethink doing that maybe?

Oiler nation spent all summer talking about the signings of Arvidsson and Skinner, and how the Oilers had a great summer (which completely ignores that they lost Foegele, McLeod and Holloway), but there has been no where near enough talk of what happened to their blueline. The D was already the weakest part of the lineup, and over the summer they made the following changes:

Out: Ceci, Desharnais, Broberg
In: Brown, Stecher, Emberson

That is a huge downgrade. If we simply rank the players on current skill level, I would go:

Ceci
Broberg
Desharnais
Stecher
Emberson
Brown

It's a very significant downgrade in talent. But it isn't even just that, they got smaller, slower, and lost 2 key guys from their PK.

Bouchard is not good in his own zone. Nurse, as bad as he is, is going to have a worse partner than he had last year. And the bottom pairing is going to be Kulak with either Stecher or Brown.

It is going to be no good. It is so no good that the Flames, after moving out Hanifin, Tanev and Zadorov, are going to have a better group.

And imagine if they incur any significant injuries. As terrible as this group is, they have zero depth. ZERO. The Flames have half a dozen guys that could step into the 3rd pairing and get by. The Oilers have... Akey?

Seriously, asking this group to play 82 games, and then go 4 rounds in the playoffs? Laughable.

The think with Coronato is he went from the USHL and 2 years of College and only played 34 games each year.

The scouting report on him was he has a non stop motor with that wicked release. That's tough to do in your first NHL season. You could see had the tools, he probably needed to get adjusted to playing that way against developed players.

This doesn't feel like a Chuck Kobasew lighting up preseason to me, he has sniped every goal, these are not pucks bouncing off his ass and going in.

I think he id a legitimate threat to be a 30 goal scorer for us with that shot during his career with us. Plus a non stop motor, those are the types who score the big goals in a tight playoff games when your stars go cold.

It could end up being a really fun year, even if they miss the playoffs by a mile.

I think a fun year and miss the playoffs by a mile is about the best we can hope for at this point in the rebuild. And sign me up.

Emberson is supposed to step into a top 4 role right away. A waiver claim by the worst team in the league.

Now they are calling for Stetcher to come in and save them. A guy that gets passed around every deadline to fill in once in a while. Absolutely hilarious.

It's basically the quadratic formula. It's a universal constant.

Edmonton plans to increase their LTIR flexibility by running Bouchard into the ground in preseason. 4D chess, everyone.

Yeah, they are pencilling in Emberson on the 2nd pair with Nurse.

Nurse - Emberson as your 2nd pairing. Say it out loud. And you have to play them 18+ minutes a night, against opposing top 6 lines, because your 3rd pairing is Kulak - Stecher/Brown (who you can play maybe 12-15 minutes max), and you want to play the top pairing in all offensive and PP situations.

And you have designs on winning the Cup.

LOL

I honestly wonder what the record for minutes played by a non-goalie in a pre-season game is.

Feels like 28:35 would be close

Was is excellent, and expected, is the TSN highlights from these games showed Hyman and McD's goals, and one of the Flames from both games. Noted Connor had a goal and an assist.
Good stuff

36:34 was Erik Karlsson in a regular season game with no OT. I can't find preseason.

Multiple coaches doing the same thing though.

Katz insistence?

Or is it McDavid insisting and they don't want to say no to him?
