Acceptable IMO.

But this is the only exception.

Design not so much because the ship sailed on that back in 1995 and 1997, but not a lot of creativity or foresight from the Flames here.

If they were going to do a 3rd this year as Blasty, why trot it out last year.

This year, while this time following the RR loose guidelines, could've done anything. The suggestion of the white and red HC jersey would be interesting, especially as mentioned in the thread it was 100 years since Calgary battles for the Cup in that design of jersey.

And when Adidas brings out the prototype with that cannot unsee seam and different materials at the belly, Flames should've told them to stuff it or print the pedestal not have a sewn seam cut the pedestal off.

All that said, the terrible and lazy 1995 design and lack of creativity or thinking outside the box (Blasty I can see in demand, pedestal was the darkest era of the Flames, with exactly 0 playoff series wins and only 3 playoff wins in the 6 seasons they were worn, fans weren't beating down the door for) the youth jersey looks the best, with the pedestal not crammed in there, and not the vast and puzzling amount of space under the hem stripes.

THG ranks Flames as #1. I tend to agree. I love that ####. At first, I was like wow, now I'm like Woah.

Also, for reference, the interview with the guy who is taking credit (?) for the original design.

I don't hate it, it's silly fun which is exactly what it should be.

I don't mind them being out there with alternate jerseys when the primary set is so beautiful

Yeah, I think paying homage to someone who wore the original version seems like a reasonable exception.

So Pedestal Brathwaite good, Pedestal Jarnkrok bad.

Just having a quick look at all the reverse retros I’m not a fan of any of them. Three jerseys is enough without needing to add in these monstrosities.

What difference does it actually make to you, though?

They could have 20 different jerseys. You don’t have to buy any of them (I won’t buy this one) but… if people are into it… cool. See the team wear these a few times this year and then they’re gone forever, no fuss.

I don’t know. It’s fun that they do something different.

I'm hoping that the saturation difference between the standard black mesh and the sublimated black mesh isn't ridiculous under the bright white lights of the Dome.

Anything you want from the Flames store. I think you can also get Stampeders and Hitmen stuff there too.

I’m not sure; I didn’t read the terms and conditions. Here’s all I got.

From the designer:

Quote:
Well, that was my fatal mistake. I really am a great believer in the diagonal in uniforms — you don’t see too many diagonals — and my thought was to put the flaming “C” on a podium, sort of a soaring-up podium. And then of course I used the diagonal slashes on the pants and the sleeves.
Quote:
But in retrospect, it hasn’t been that popular of a uniform.

Y'know, there are those times when you see a mockup and you think, "boy, that's bad!", and then when the actual product comes out, you think, "actually, that's pretty good". This is not one of those times.

The white C is nice. Wish we got an actual reverse blasty with the logos switched

The negative reactions to this jersey design are so funny to me given how many people had positive reactions to the "Blasty" (ugh, I cringe typing that name...) jersey two years ago. I find it especially amusing that people are associating the "pedestal" with the team's worst period of ineptitude and futility, but don't associate "Blasty" with the same. The discussion two years ago seemed to be split between people who selectively associate the '03-'04 and '05-'06 teams with it, and those of us who remember the overall '96-'03 period very well and more strongly associate "Blasty" with that same period of utter trash.

Objectively I don't think the new Reverse Retro is good-looking, but at least this time 'round the staffers who designed it understood the assignment: take a "retro" jersey design and substantially "reverse" it. All the "Blasty" jersey did was swap the red cuffs and bottom for black, and replace the red C patches on the shoulders with white, but the jersey is otherwise exactly the same as the one from 1998. Like the Rangers' Lady Liberty Reverse Retros from two years ago it was a pathetically low effort, and I cringe at how many people are seemingly enamoured with the team using the jersey as a "third" this year and going forward. I think Flames fandom may have the worst aesthetic sense in the league...

This time they truly "reversed" a "retro" jersey, switching the black from an accent colour on the "pedestal" design to the primary colour. It's hokey, but at least they're leaning right into the idea. In fact this looks very much like what people envisioned a "black" third Flames jersey would look like when it was rumoured the Flames were going to wear one in '98.

Any shots of it with the matching helment/pants/socks/gloves combo?
