It sure is fun telling Americans what the capital of SK is though.

Sounds like the feds are making September 19th a national day of mourning. I haven't heard what they really means though for what will be open and closed that day.

Right now only federally regulated employees would get it off. So like government and banks.
JT preemptively blamed the provinces and said he’s encouraged them to recognize the day so people can mourn. So blame Kenny if he doesn’t follow suit.

The RAF C-17 carrying the Queen is airborne now off of Edinburgh airport. Flightradar24 tracking site is overloaded and down from people trying to view it (I think at last count before it went down about 750k were viewing it).
Wow, I think that is a record for them:

Elizabeth II and Victoria do take up the vast majority of it, but there's a 51-year gap and three generations in between them.
Victoria: 33 years, 206 days
Edward VII: 9 years, 104 days
George V: 25 years, 259 days
Edward VIII: 326 days
George VI: 15 years, 57 days
Elizabeth II: 70 years, 214 days
Charles III: 5 days so far...

I had to rain on the parade of one of my staff today. He informed me that we are required to be closed on Monday. I said "Not yet, read the fine print".

it never ceases to amaze me how ordinary folks will take time out of their day and expend effort to go drop off yet another wreath or something at a spot where there are already thousands of other things there.
i can't really find the mental bandwidth to mourn someone i never met.

Clearly the queen means more to some people than others. Nothing wrong with that.

Anecdote time.
I went to a Croatia-England football match once and saw dozens and dozens of Englishmen at the pubs the night prior with tattoos of the faces of the royals, especially the queen. They also chose to drink their beers with no shirts on and they were obese.
Some people just love the queen. And hate shirts.

I was out getting lunch today and in line a guy asks:
"How come all the flags are at half-mast? Did somebody die? Was there a tragedy?"
I'm thinking to myself:
Where the hell have you been the last few days?

Queen Victoria's rule was almost double that, 63 years, seven months and two days.
