By doing so, the defendants "profited tens of billions of dollars" at other Dogecoin investors' expense, while knowing all along that the currency lacked intrinsic value and that its value "depended solely on marketing," the complaint said.

Isn’t the defense here that the coin always was a joke. It was created to show the absurdity of digital currency. For anyone to consider anything said about it as more than satire is an idiot.

Would that work as a defense. These people were tweeting about it and its value was going up. Besides having a meme name is it any different than countless other coins?

No idea but it was made to make fun of bitcoin and given its meme name to mock it. Then it became a meme coin.
If you were investing it dogecoin you knew it was a ponzu scheme. No one could have been deceived.
I’d say that different than something like ETh which promotes itself as having use cases.

That's fair, my personal experience is pretty much the same, I follow some specific people or accounts and that's it.. but it seems like turning it off would be a net positive for the planet.
