The $258 billion racketeering lawsuit accusing Elon Musk of running a pyramid scheme to support the cryptocurrency Dogecoin has expanded, adding seven new investor plaintiffs and six new defendants including his tunnel construction business Boring Co.

According to an amended complaint filed on Tuesday night in Manhattan federal court, Musk, his electric car company Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), his space tourism company SpaceX, Boring and others intentionally drove up the price of Dogecoin more than 36,000% over two years and then let it crash.

By doing so, the defendants "profited tens of billions of dollars" at other Dogecoin investors' expense, while knowing all along that the currency lacked intrinsic value and that its value "depended solely on marketing," the complaint said.

Yeah if that's the basis for a lawsuit basically every crypto pumper ever is going to get sued.

Isn’t the defense here that the coin always was a joke. It was created to show the absurdity of digital currency. For anyone to consider anything said about it as more than satire is an idiot.

Would that work as a defense. These people were tweeting about it and its value was going up. Besides having a meme name is it any different than countless other coins?

No idea but it was made to make fun of bitcoin and given its meme name to mock it. Then it became a meme coin.

If you were investing it dogecoin you knew it was a ponzu scheme. No one could have been deceived.

I’d say that different than something like ETh which promotes itself as having use cases.

Elon Musk has come up with a new reason to get out of his acquisition of Twitter - a severance payment.

In the latest attempt, Musk's lawyers said the merger agreement stated Twitter would not "grant or provide any severance or termination payments or benefits to any Company Service Provider other than the payment of severance amounts or benefits in the ordinary course of business consistent with past practice."

The world's richest man is disturbed that the $7.75 million severance package paid to former CSO Peiter "Mudge" Zatko on 28 June was in breach of the contract, they claimed in a letter to the Securities Exchange Commission. Mudge claims Twitter ignored glaring security flaws in its basic platform.

LOL. Dude is absolutely DESPERATE to get out of this one.

I'm no legal expert but that seems like grasping at straws. I so hope he doesn't get out of this.

Twitter said he was fired in January 2022 for “ineffective leadership and poor performance” and his allegations against the company painted a “false narrative.”

So before Musk made the bid. The argument seems pretty flimsy.

A majority of Twitter’s shareholders have voted to approve Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover. During a special meeting of shareholders that lasted about seven minutes, stockholders approved of two proposals: one to adopt the merger agreement with Musk, and one related to how the company’s executives will be compensated as a result of the deal.

The ideal outcome would be for Musk to be forced to buy Twitter then he shuts it off after the deal closes.

I'm in the minority as I love Twitter and use it for the latest in international news and sports. Use the trending a lot to find out what's happening. But I also don't read comments on Tweets, so don't experience the toxicity many people claim Twitter can be.

That's fair, my personal experience is pretty much the same, I follow some specific people or accounts and that's it.. but it seems like turning it off would be a net positive for the planet.

Twitter is definitely a sewer, but it's a loveable kind of sewer. Facebook, on the other hand, should be permanently shuttered ASAP.
