According to this article, Kane’s contract was void for “traveling home to Vancouver while he was in COVID-19 protocol last month” But the NHL just clears Kane of COVID-19 protocol breach; so which is it?
Maybe someone to uses twitter or has a social media presence can tweet some hockey people and find out about this. What a ######ing joke!

They won't win...they might beat Montreal and the Sens, they might even squeak into the playoffs where they will lose.

Kane will use all the hype to get a big contract elsewhere since the Oilers will have no cap and then Oilers will bring back a worse team next season due to cap space

They're 2 separate issues.

Even though the Sportsnet story says the league cleared him of breaching the COVID protocol, that's not what they did. They found no evidence that he misrepresented his COVID status when crossing the border. That doesn't mean he didn't violate the league's COVID protocol by crossing the border.

We still don't know what consequences the Sharks will face for the termination.

Even better, Edmonton falls for it like San Jose did, the Oilers make a bad trade to clear space for Kane, sign him to a big deal, he immediately goes back to being himself, stuck with contract

So did Principe ask Kane how it feels to share the ice with the greatest player in Canadian History?

I thought that he signed with the oilers?

CaptainCrunch’s was rightfully mocking Principe and is one of the last posters I’d expect to slip up in an E=NG thread.

Default Oilers sign Evander Kane (1 yr, $2.1 million full season cap hit, NMC)

I'm no Vancouver fan, but I wonder how they feel watching San Jose skate on Kane's contract while they had to pay the buyout to get rid of Virtanen, and now I think there's a warrant out for his arrest for when he comes back from the KHL.

Seems unprecedentedly kind to San Jose compared to similar situations other teams have experienced.

I still don’t understand how San Jose doesn’t get some cap penalties on this. Not fair at all.

It's complete BS and I don't understand why the media hasn't been asking this question.

Any cap penalty has to depend on the grievance being filed by the NHLPA.

If the arbitrator, or whoever rules on such cases, determines that the Sharks were within their rights to terminate the contract, there can be no cap penalty. They let their highest scorer walk as a UFA for breach of contract; they aren’t paying him; another team is; so there is nothing left to count against their cap.

However, if the arbitrator finds that they owe Kane compensation, you can be sure that will count. But that has yet to be determined, so nobody can put a number on the cap hit that should apply.

It is odd that the biggest losers are Kane’s creditors.

They let him walk? They changed the locks on the doors.

I think the women he abused might not agree with that.

I'd be pretty angry if the Flames brought him in and then he abused a local girl like his track record suggests he will do. I wonder if they are okay with that in Edmonton - as long as he scores a few goals.

We have one Edmonton poster here saying he doesn't care one bit what he does off the ice. Maybe they have no problem with their hockey heros hurting women in Edmonton.

I'm glad the Flames had no interest in a guy like that.

Sorry I wasn’t clearer; I was as referring specifically to the contract and any liens where others get first dibs. This would include any financial obligations that Kane currently has. They are all stakeholders in Kane’s ongoing earnings.

I didn’t mean to discuss (and absolutely not dismiss) Mr Kane’s personal relationships.
