Fox was not without his warts when he was drafted, THN (and some other outlets) had him going in the 70's. His vision was never questioned, but his size and strength were major knocks on him. His straight-line speed got very mixed reviews, as did his defensive coverage. I really don't believe his choice of destination played a part in where he was drafted. Turned out to be a steal though.

Him being drafted seven years before doesn't mean you can't get the two mixed up in regards to whether their father used to play for the Rangers or was just a season ticket holder.

Amazing game! I drove down from St. Albert with my two oldest sons, and my brother drove in from Kelowna. We go to two games a year in Calgary. This was the best night we have had at the dome since the Iginla era. Huge energy in the crowd from puck drop off. The chants, the cheers, the boos, and the booze, were all flowing freely!

I’m loving Sutter hockey again. The team is tough, fast, and has its identity back. On a night when the whole team played great, Gaudreau and Tkachuk stood out. Lock these guys up!

The only complaint…it was a huge struggle to find a place to eat before the game. Vagabond, our usual spot, was unexpectedly closed. We tried several other spots before finding somewhere on 17th Ave that would allow minors. Not going to name names, but I was very disappointed with Calgary’s hospitality industry - it was almost like no one wanted our business.

Maybe he was drafted as a tradeable asset all along. Flames got more than third round value for him I'd say.

It’s pretty crazy how poor service is in some places. Agreed the attitude is bizarre for a business to operate that way.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding but how is it bad service that some places don’t allow minors?

Welcome to coming to a city during Covid. The restaurant/bar industry has been decimated, and many of those who remain are struggling to remain afloat as restrictions have been going for a year and a half. Things very clearly aren't the same.

As far as not allowing minors, I'm not sure how that is a failure of any one establishment. If they're an establishment that has decided to serve liquor and serve an adult clientele, is it a knock against them to not serve minors?

Maybe his complaint was about the shortage of options?

17th Avenue has been especially hard hit. Some good restaurants went belly-up due to poor access during the endless repaving project a few years ago. For many of the survivors, business taxes tripled in a few years. Then COVID hit. Frankly, I'm somewhat amazed there are any restaurants left on 17th at all.

Mr. Coffee translated that to bad service and attitude.

Yep, there's a pretty big shortage of options these days and two HUGE reasons. We're in the middle of Covid and the heartbeat industry of our city has been torn away and he's wondering aloud like there's some incompetent failure of our service industry to live up to a tourist's visit.

Yeah its a combination of Covid, and pretty much a dead downtown core. Restaurants are going to the suburbs

Especially on 17th avenue.

I don’t know how often you guys get to 17th but the places are regularly packed and there’s dozens of restaurants and bars. Every single place was absolutely packed on a nightly basis for months.

They maybe were hurting for business during the height of covid but they haven’t been this summer/fall.

However, as to the OP’s point there aren’t a lot of family friendly places. It’s mostly bars/pubs and a few upscale joints.

Work near 17th. Was definitely tough in 2020, but 2021 has been buzzing since ribbon cutting day.

This is my recollection from reading about him here.

This is bang on, Cecil. My frustration was the lack of options, and that the few options available were not family friendly.

Hopefully things improve with the new Event Centre and the continuing developments in the East Village.

As a side note, I know one of the architects working on the Event Centre and from what I’ve heard it’s going to be amazing. Better times are coming for Calgary!

Does anyone have the clip of where Fox says “F me” after his goal was disallowed?
