Put them back from what exactly? They've been middling at best for the last 16 years. If you can get a bona-fide number 1 center in exchange for a player that isn't worth his qualifying offer and is likely to be gone you do it.

That's a substantial package on offer if true. Would be a monumental trade. I like Tkachuck but I think elite center's being such a rare commodity it would still be a good trade.

Not sure that notoriously cheap Buffalo would want a guy who is an RFA after this year at around $9 million for year one and probably double digits after that.
If we give up Tkachuk and Valimaki while only getting a few games from Eichel, the odds are that we'll be giving up a pretty decent draft pick.
I don't know if this deal is really one that either side would really love doing.

He’s the 4th leading scorer on the team, not the 1st.

If this is true then this will probably go down as one of the all time great Flames trades.
IMO the player we'll miss most a few years from now in this deal is Valimaki, not Chucky.
But it won't matter because we'll have one of the games best players (can't say that about Chucky or Valimaki).

Always hate seeing names being leaked in trades before it's done, especially from reputable sources. Hate to end up with another Brodie situation. Now it feels like we almost have to trade Tkachuk.
