Why? They have 76% possession so...winning?
Pep thinks so.
In all seriousness, In know they love their possession and passing, but they need a killer. Like Lewandowski. Or Torres, Villa, one guy who will put the damned thing away given the chance.
They make so many chances but they all seem shocked and surprised when the ball comes to them in a dangerous area and they sky it.
It is hilarious though, I'll grant you that.
I mean...they're botching penalties!

Were Asensio & Isco, really that weaker than this Spanish midfield? Final third creativity has been poor.

The problem for Spain isn't creating chances. Morata should have at least 4 goals in this competition. Just shocking finishing right now.

So channeling my inner SCD again. The Austria match against Ukraine tomorrow will be interesting. A win or draw gets Ukraine 2nd, a win gets Austria 2nd. But 2nd plays Italy. 3rd might play Sweden, or not at all. Devo? do you want to win this game?

Would be fun now if Italy popped a couple more and Switzerland another one.

Italy looking really good. This is the most entertaining Italian side since 2006, loving it!

Have to say I'm not really a fan of this whole "top 4 third place teams" qualify thing.
Honestly they should have just brought 8 more teams and done 8 groups of 4 instead, with top two from each group making it.

It will get there, although you may need a few more wars. Having 32 teams out of 55 is sort of pointless.

The teams are there. I agree that 32 out of 55 doesn’t make a ton of sense but it’s still half of the field gets eliminated in qualifying.
Iceland, Northern Ireland, Serbia, Georgia were the teams that lost the play in games.
And Ireland, Norway, Greece, Northern Ireland are in the top 50 of fifa world rankings.
I’m not sure adding & teams like that takes away from the overall quality of the tournament, and you’d probably get a better final 16.
That or remove 4 teams and go with 4 groups of 5, and top 2 from each group make it. That would probably make for a really fun group stage with some great matches.

The first time the World Cup went to 24 teams in Spain 1982, they had 6 groups of 4 and the top two advance to 4 groups of 3 and then the winner of those 4 groups went on to the semifinals.
People found that three team groups sucked and that they weren't balanced. Two groups would have two first placed teams, and the other two groups would have two second placed teams.
Ironically the two crappy groups became the powerhouse groups. Brazil, Italy and Argentina. England, West Germany and Spain.
This is the only time in history this format was used.

I think the Dutch are screwed. This group was too easy and they've become really complacent.
