That and be a lot cleaner with their exits. Short passes and get up the ice with numbers. No turnovers at the bluelines don't feed their transition.

I don't think you counter that with short passes and slow supported breakout. I think you counter with a fast attack before they are ready. Hartley did this very well. Vancouver did it to the Jets recently.
If we put our forwards against their bad D 2 on 2 I like our odds of pushing the play deep and then seeing what happens. Instead it's all slow possession hockey that leads to nothing.
