I'm more concerned that Tkachuk famously "arrived" against Colorado Game 1 after being called out a bit by the media for not doing anything previously in the playoffs and then disappeared offensively the rest of the series. Game 1 vs WPG compared to Game 2 felt very similar.
Need to see more killer instinct from most of the team, but Tkachuk is the one guy that absolutely should lead the team in the playoffs.

Ward's response was super calm. What Maurice said was unprofessional. He dragged Tkachuk through the mud and created a media circus, it was a solid coach move.
Ward responded calmly, and so did his team today. Business as usual. The Jets elevated their play, the Flames didn't. This team struggles hugely in elevating their game during intense times. Do something to try and help. Find a way to spark your team the way Maurice did with his team.

What has Maurice ever won again?
Guy has coached for 23 years and has been past the first round 3 times

Maybe.
Personally, I think that's passing the blame from the players when the leadership group and the individual players are responsible for dictating their own intensity.

With that jets d, and a depleted forward group, i’m expecting our top guys to control the flow next game. It was never likely they’d win both games in 30 hours if you want to look at bright side.

I definitely place the blame on the leadership group/the core players. This loss is entirely on Tkachuk/Gaudreau/Monahan and Giordano in my eyes. The powerplay went 0 for 6, and none of them seemed to want to battle or push that extra bit during those powerplays. Atrocious.
Outside of that though, I think Maurice showed some playoff savvy and Ward did not.

Yup. He's just a horse. Quality player, good effort game in, game out and pretty smart.

The power play was so bad it is to the point I think you consider changing the personnel on it.
You need to keep skating on the pp. Standing still won’t cut it.

Just to jump in on the conversation that Pepsi Free and Bubbsy have going on about fandom, I can certainly relate to both points. I feel like I am a Flames fan for life, having seen the win the cup during my early teens. I couldn't cheer for another team if I tried. That said, I don't get too down about their struggles either because I just can't; its only hockey after all and if the Flames are my biggest problem I am doing fine, especially this year. Besides all the 2020 stuff that is affecting all of us I have lost a close friend recently, watched another close friend lose his mom to cancer, and am going to lose my own mother any time now.
It's good to care about the Flames, and it sucks when they suck, but it's just a game at the end of it all.

He's also got the best shot on the team and it's not even close.

Scoring Winger

I haven’t been through all 21 pages of this thread, but EE sums it up perfectly in the second post. This game exemplified the last 75 games of Flames history.
At this point, I’d rather take my chances at the #1 pick and see if the core can be changed that way. Otherwise, it’s time for Johnny and a couple of others to go. There is a fundamental chemistry issue in this locker room, and I think Johnny is right at the heart of, or lack thereof.
The evident thing to me right now is that Brodie must be re-signed at any cost. He has quietly had a monster year, and will replace Gio as the veteran presence.

So the thing I wonder about is how one goes about currying favour with the refs.
Maurice went on his absurd rant, didn’t mention the refs specifically, but sure as anything did basically say something dirty filthy and grotesque happened, and obviously there is an implication as the refs called nothing
Now in today’s debacle, you had a lot of missed calls, some awful selectivity, and so much opportunity for Ward to point something out.
He could suggest that he thought the guy who scored the winner could have that high hit looked at, for example. He and Tre don’t seem to do such things.
I wonder what happens behind closed doors with the league as I can’t imagine the Flames were more pleased with the officiating than I was. I’ve got no skin in the game

In yesterday’s follow up, Maurice went as far as to say it couldn’t be seen in real-time by the refs, but that when watched in slow-mo from a particular angle. Clearly ensuring he wasn’t putting any blame on the refs.

Giordano, Backlund and Ward are responsible for this loss. Bad pinch by Gio resulted in first goal. Pathetic soft dump back into his own corner to no one by Backlund resulted in second Jets goal. Has Backlund ever sacrificed his body to make a play? He seems to always be floating on the perimeter.
Two games in and two terrible first periods where the Jets take the lead. Players not prepared to start on time is on the cardboard cutouts in suits behind the bench. They are playing like robots out there.
Treliving, please after they are eliminated hire a Go* D%$ FUC#*@G top proven FUC*&$G coach.

That Winnipeg team might be the worst NHL team to ever win a playoff game. That roster is laughable. Even Ricardo can’t defend that lineup.
Calgary should be able to run the table the rest of the way. Colorado they ain’t.

That's the part that I get worked up about. At least the Avs had MacKinnon and the Flames could say they got outclassed by a top-3 player in the game.
But these Jets are mediocre, at best. They're missing two of their top players and all of their defense. But the Flames played to their level, and even below it, today.
The Flames were constantly behind the play and spent ten minutes at a time stuck in neutral in their own end. Against a team stacked with elite players? OK. Against the Jets?? That's a bit worrying.
That's what makes me nervous about Game 3... the Flames need to come out actually playing above the level of their opponent, or, odds are, they go into Game 4 down 2-1 and the odds are really stacked against them. Maybe the Flames take control of the momentum tomorrow and force it their way, but I have yet to really see this core do that in the playoffs, so I would be surprised. But happy.

Was there no press conferences or anything today? Surprised at the lack of post-game media in here.
