So anyways. Besides Bennett having more shots on goal than Ferland... which is irrelevant anyways. Lindholm and Bennett pretty much score goals at the same clip. I don’t see how Lindholm is going to be the goal scoring saviour we all covet. If putting him on the top line is the answer for some of you... why don’t they just put Bennett there?

Ferly is better than Bennett on the top line. If were trading Hamilton we better get someone better than Lindholm.

I agree... but you quoted me when I was asking someone about the differences between Bennett and Lindholm. Of which I see very little besides a shiney new toy who shoots right (most overblown CP request of the season).

So you think they are equal players? Right now Bennett is a bust while Lindholm has value and upside.

Well for starters this team needs a true top 6 forward who’s a RH shot. He fills multiple needs; he’s played Center so if we run into injury trouble he’s available to slot at Center he fills a hole on the right side while we are healthy and unlike Bennett he has 4 straight consistent 40 point seasons (2 of them are 39 but let’s not split hairs.)
Lindholm has easily proven he can hit 30 assists consistently and is good for at least 10 to 15 goals but I think if you slot him in with Monahan and Johnny there is no doubting he can grow his goal totals into the 20’s.
I’m not saying all this to downplay Bennett who I still think has lots and lots to show but at the age of 23 and the consistent play Lindholm has shown there’s no doubting that he still has more to show too.
Of all the rumoured players we are looking at honestly Lindholm makes the most sense in terms of need, age group, contract, familiarity. It just is a matter of what the cost would/will be.
Hopefully the flames can reach an agreement with out giving up Bennett because the biggest need for this team is balanced scoring across the first three lines and adding a RH RW with Center experience does exactly that.

I agree with that as well Heavy Jack. But the return for Lindholm isn’t close to Hamilton.
But again, their goal totals are almost equal if you go season by season. So if he isn’t a goal scorer then he isn’t a great fit for the top line. The last thing Johnny needs on his line is a playmaker.
Don’t get me wrong, of course I would like to see Lindholm here. But these proposals for him are insane.

I think if you bring in lindholm Bennett will be going the other way or at least on the way out because that would be a clear indication from the team that they don’t see him as a top 6 option. Yes positionally he’s an LW or C (don’t actually want to reopen that argument) but he should be getting more than bottom 6 minutes if the flames want to see him progress and become the player they drafted him to be

Where is this lindholm for Hamilton thing coming from? The rumours are flames interested in lindholm. If the deal gets bigger then Hamilton might be involved. Nowhere does it imply lindholm for Hamilton straight swap.

This team needs to improve depth. Bringing in Lindholm only to subtract Bennett means you’re effectively standing still.

Bennett for Lindholm could be a good change of scenery for both players.

Umm no. Lindholm is a better player than Bennett . That alone would make the flames better. I would also argue that finding a third liner in fa would not be that hard to replace Bennett. I hope Bennett breaks out because he is a flame but he really has not showed anything that he will be a top 6 player.

I agree but I think it sends a clear message to Bennett that he is at best a 3rd liner for us going forward

I don't agree with ComixZone very often, but this comment is right on the money. You don't improve your depth, or address weaknesses, but making one-for-one swaps of players at the same positions or in the same class. The intent here is to add an additional forward while using our depth on the blueline as the bargaining piece. If the deal is a blueliner and a forward, then the return must be at least two quality forwards coming back.

Well we could consider too that Bennett has never had a true set up man and has been leaned on to carry lesser players; maybe getting him a set-up guy would go a long way for him to become the sniper we all expected. Keep Ferland up top with Johnny/Mony and the three M line in tact and have a 2A/2B line in the middle 6?
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Lindholm
That’s a solid group for the top 9 with Frolik needing to be upgrade; Ferland moved down and a true top line RW would be the need going forward but that’s a balanced threat for the first 3 lines which is a desperate need for this team.
If we could make Brodie + prospect for Lindholm work I’d be all over that; the only way I consider moving Hamilton in a Lindholm Trade is if the Flames are getting a 2nd round pick + one of their young Dmen (Hanifin, Slavin or Fleury) id consider Faulk too but it would depend on his extension going forward.
The flames are well positioned to improve with the cap going up and their organizational depth at D so we’ll see how this all plays out.

Not this again. Brouwer has ALMOST negative value. Bennet has underdelivered on his draft position. If you had picked Bennett in the 4th round, we would be calling him a win, and be perfectly happy that he rounded out into such a good 3 line guy. There will be people plenty happy to have a guy like Bennet on their 3rd line for a 2 million dollar cap hit. Can we please reconcile ourselves to the difference between disappointment and negative value? One has the ability to play meaningful minutes down the lineup with the potential to improve, the other one is Troy Brouwer.

I'm not arguing that Lindholm is better than Bennett, because he has accomplished more. Lindholm scored 44 points while playing at the top of Carolina's line-up including being on the #1 PP unit and playing 2:37 of PP time a game, not exactly great numbers.
The jump between Lindholm and Bennett is not that big when you're considering offensive output, and when the team is trying to increase offensive output throughout the line-up - subtracting one to add the other just makes very little sense in my eyes.
