And he did exactly what he was supposed to do on the PP. Big body in front. Somebody has to get there. We will see this year if Ferland is a better choice. PP was top 10 for the last 60 games, wasn't it? You can help create a goal without ending up on the scoresheet.
The problem with Brouwer is 5v5.

If Brouwer doesn't go, a fourth line of Stajan/Jankowski/Brouwer is pretty good. I wouldn't be shaking in fear if they have a D-zone faceoff against a top line - they are capable defensively.
Swapping in Lazar if someone goes down or is in a slump doesn't hurt too much either.

Fair point. I can't really argue that. I guess I look for a more "physical" contribution, where he puts up points but you're right that's still a contribution.
On the topic of a trade, Derek Wills seems to think there's still a chance he is moved. He's on 960 this morning suggesting St. Louis could use him.

If it's too good to be true then it probably is. Who is going to want a $4.5MM 4th liner. I doubt we can trade him without giving up something, eating tons of salary or getting something bad back in return.
Every team has a few bad contracts and most teams have an overpaid free agent signing like Brouwer. It's something every team has to live with.
Only option really is to let him play on the 4th line and look at a buyout option in the summer if he doesn't bounce back. With him on buyout and Stajan's contract ending that frees up some cap space for Backlund then Tkachuk, Bennett etc. Flames will be in a good spot cap wise.

What about Not Ken King saying yesterday that the rumour has legs?
Sounds like he knew something
(or was it just an inside joke I didn't pick up on)

We likely won't know for a day or two. From the Glass thread:
14 Forwards:
Gaudreau
Monahan
Ferland
Tkachuk
Backlund
Frolik
Versteeg
Bennett
Brouwer
Glass
Stajan
Hamilton
Jankowski
Lazar
7 Defencemen:
Giordano
Hamilton
Brodie
Hamonic
Bartkowski
Stone
Kulak
2 Goalies:
Smith
Lack
So when Jagr becomes official, it pushes the active roster to 24. Something is cooking, and I sincerely doubt it'll just be Jankowski being demoted (he's earned a spot).

Could Troy Brouwer end up in Chicago now that Hossa is on LTIR?

Now that Jagr is signed, there is a logjam for the 4th line. There are 6 guys, of which the Flames should have 5 max.
Stajan - steady vet but very replaceable. Well liked in the room
Jankowski - dominated the AHL, looked good in camp, and deserves a shot
Brouwer - disappointing and terrible contract
F. Hamilton - serviceable, cheap 13th fwd and it's important to Dougie that he's here
Lazar - didn't impress in pre-season but won't ever find his groove if he plays in limited games
Glass - adds some heart and truculence that this team needs with Engelland's departure
There's too many guys. Obviously, getting rid of Brouwer is the best option for the team, but it's also the hardest to pull off.
The rest of the lineup looks great, except for the #6 D spot, so that's the only way I see Brouwer traded. Vegas has way too many D, not enough forwards, and enough cap space to absorb Brouwer's contract.
To pull a trade off with any other team, the Flames are adding a prospect (which they won't do) or taking on a similarly bad contract (which they most likely won't do).
There's no way Tre is excited to have $4.5M on the 4th line, while keeping guys on the bench who should be playing. I bet he's looking at trading Brouwer, but the return out there is probably brutal.

Vegas has too many skaters and too many goalies (currently saved on skaters by IR). Yet the IR that helps them roster wise creates a hole on RW. Their centre depth sucks too.
Brouwer/Stajan + Lack for Pickard + any of their D

Zero chance of that, Chicago doesn't have the cap room even if Calgary retains 50%.

Really F's over Lack. More or less ruins his career unless one of Vegas' goalies gets injured.

Personally, shrug. That's better for the Flames which is all that matters.

So one Jagr arrives, Hathaway goes to Stockton and it's problem solved. I'm not seeing the evidence that something is brewing.

If they want Jankowski to play they have to make room and move another body.

They still need to make another move. They are at 24 right now before signing Jagr.
Loubardias thinks Hathaway plays the first game against the Oilers and that Jankowski goes down temporarily to make room for it.

Just checking to make sure I understand if this is the Flames play....
If Janko goes down now, and Hathaway goes down when Jagr comes in - that will put the flames at 14 forwards and Janko can't come back up unless Hamilton or Lazar get waived and demoted is that right?
