WOW ! This thread was a blast from the past with some of the names, some I will admit I don't even recognize as Flames players!

I was always considered the biggest Flames fan amongst most of my friends but some of the posters here are literally in another league. Good for you!

For a guy with limited skills, Todd Simpson doesn't get enough credit for his smarts. He did whatever he needed to in order to carve out an NHL career. Started as a tough guy, morphed into the stay-at-home leader type, squeezed a few more years out as a rough and tumble guy again. Saw a niche, played to it, didn't try to be anything else. Played his role well.

I always liked him for that.

I always liked Todd Simpson as well and thought he was a good fit as team captain.

I've always believed your captain doesn't have to be your best, most skilled, and/or highest paid player.

If you really want to re-live Flames history try out Eastside Hockey Manager with retro rosters. Just started a new game starting in 1998 as the Flames GM.

Names like Fleury, Stillman, Nylander, Iginla, Morris, Housley, Cassels on my top lines and some up and coming guys with the Saint John Flames that are starting to crack my NHL roster Martin St. Louis, Marc Savard, & JS Giguere and don't forget about my unsigned prospects Rico Fata & Daniel Tkaczuk; I have a good feeling they are going to be super stars.
