Reading how angry Blues fans are about this trade on Hf makes me happy.

I don't think it's sunk in yet that the Flames not only have a starting goalie, but the goalie with the second highest save percentage since 2011. We're talking about an elite goaltender here. It doesn't seem real after what we had to put up with last year.
What's kind of insane to think about is that the Flames defense put up stupid good numbers with that goaltending. Imagine what they'll be like with Elliott back there, not having to cover for Hiller or Ramo?
Welcome to Calgary, Moose.

Elliott's just never gotten the credit he deserves. He's put up elite numbers for years, but never himself gets called elite. People are pointing to his years in Ottawa 6 freaking years ago, like he's just some flash in the pan. I don't get it.
Hopefully management doesn't go with a 1a 1b scenerio again, I'm really excited to see what Elliott can do if he's finally the guy and gets 60-65 starts

IF Ortio craps the bed in a backup role (and only then), I would consider Ramo back at 1.5-2 mil on a short term "prove it to me" deal.

Any chance he takes an extension at 5.5?
That and Ortio at 900-1m gives us a savings of about 2 million from what we paid our goalies last year and seems like a reasonable cap hit for goaltending on a competing team

Agreed. The trade was massive for the team's immediate future/outlook.
Though, not to name any names
But I hope that after so much emphasis on having active D and using the rush, that the Flames are a little more structured in their defensive game and at least help out Elliot more than last year's tandem was, despite the at times abysmal quality of play from them.

seems to be a very similar move to getting Monahan to sign a bridge deal rather than a 6x6.... short term cap savings and might have to pay more latter.
We get Elliot for cheap this year, but what will it take to extend him, if he has a reasonably good year.
Keep in mind that pretty much everyone on this board seemed to be okay with Reimer getting a 4x4 deal...
Right now Elliot >>>>>>>>>>>> Reimer

Was there a poll I missed on Reimer deals?

yeah I'd like to see where "pretty much everyone" wanted Reimer at 4x4.

I was fine with Reimer, compared to, say, giving up our 1st round pick for Fluery. I flip flopped a lot on the goaltender situation but never gave much though to Elliot because I thought there was no way the Blues would move him after his play in the playoffs

Not sure how many 4 year deals are going to be offered Reimer's way. I would have been fine if that's where the Flames goaltending search ended but Elliot is a significant upgrade that immediately makes the Flames a better team. Dare I say a Flames goaltender may be able to actually steal the odd game.

I think it's because he has only one NHL season where he has played more than half of his team's games (46 a year ago). Whatever the reasons for that, I am not sure (injuries, managed workload, inconsistency... I don't know his history).
I think it's reasonable to question whether he can maintain those types of numbers being a true #1 and not a 1a or 1b. Some goalies are lights out when they have a light workload but fall apart if they have to play more than 50 games. Until Elliot answers that question, some people are going to be apprehensive.
Edit: Sorry, he played 55 one year in Ottawa but didn't post great numbers.

That's essentially what I was trying to say, I want to see what he can do if he's getting those starts. Especially since that's why he's excited to come here

there was always a second good goalie who he had to share time with. First Halak, then Miller, then Allen. In all of that, Elliott never did anything else than post awesome numbers ... at the end of the day, I think he never got the number of starts that he deserved, and that's exactly why he wanted this move, too.
