I'm guessing that the decline of NFL ratings this season has other leagues ####ting a brick. The RSN's and the sports rights contracts have had a reckoning coming for a while and perhaps we're starting to see the surge of the wave forming.

The leagues will soon just open their own streaming services and your internet bill will skyrocket with the death of network tv.

Your money is still going to end up in the same guys hands.

The only people who will lose are the networks themselves.

You are moving posts. It's the attitude. Out with the old and in with the new because I wasn't there so I don't care. I said Remembrance day to show how ignorant that line of thinking is. But whatever. I guess you think that players that play daily all over arenas and can be seen on tv need to be talked about more that the ones that we can no longer play.

Thats the thing that I always find about 'Old Time' Hockey guys. They love that stuff.

I just always say the same thing, watch some NHL hockey right now and then sit down and watch that Summit Series or the 1974 Stanley Cup Final or whatever.

If you are a current hockey fan, regardless of how much you might bitch and moan about hockey's 'Glory Days' I sincerely doubt you can take more than 10-15 minutes of 'Glory Days' Vintage Hockey.

Its terrible.

Prove it. Sit down and watch a game from the 70s or 80s. Its unwatchable.

Sure, some people might say they like it for the nostalgia, but even that wears thin pretty damned fast, sit down and watch it without going 'A Clockwork Orange.'

Its coming. And it isnt going to be pretty when it happens.

And unfortunately, hockey and Sportsnet were late-adopters so they're now coming in on the declining tail-end of the wave and didnt get the sweet, sweet cake of the crest of the wave.

I feel the same, for me. But it's not about me now, is it? I have kids and would like them to be exposed to that like me. And maybe their kids too. Is that wrong? If we take that approach and stop talking about these events, how are these kids ever gonna find out?

Don't worry, they're going to ride canadian protectionism all the way to the bank the same way internet and cellphone providers do.

I dont think thats going to be enough on this one.

Especially not after the Leap Manifesto is adopted, we'll be way too busy weaving baskets and making our own clothes to be bothered with Bourgeoisie trivialities like 'sports.'

Ron annoys the crap out of me at times, but I do like stories of the past in hockey.

And I'm old. My grandparents have been gone a long time now. I'd kill for one of those stories, even if it's one I've heard 100 times before.

Umm, yes. Obviously. They're promoting a product.

Umm, no. The NHL does that. HNIC is a TV Show in no way connected to the business of NHL.

You don't think it's in the interest of the company who paid 5.2 billion for the broadcast rights to sell the game so more people tune in?

Is this real life?

There's nothing I don't know about Orr, Gretzky, etc. TBH I tune everything out about that era of hockey these days. I appreciate it, but it's boring.

Build up the present, not the past.

Ugh, conversing with some people is really tough. Constantly moving posts. Now we are having a money conversation? How about this for moving posts? Was the Hipster Dufus brought in to promote the game of hockey? The guy that looked like wouldn't know how to tie his skates?

I give up....Go NAT.

I think that's the point though - right now there isn't enough of a balance. There is more complaining about the present game and holding the past game on a pedestal.

I agree it should be a balance.
Ron doesn't deliver that balance IMHO

Constantly moving posts?

This ENTIRE THREAD is related the broadcast of the game, which is obviously having problems. You literally said that HNIC is in no way connected to the business of hockey. They ARE the business of hockey.

Just because you don't understand the context of the thread doesn't mean others are hard to converse with.

Well not everyone is as smart as you are nik. Aren't you on this forum everyday making sure everyone knows that?

Ron is bad for business, a business neither one of us has anything to do with. And that's a reason for a hockey fan to not like him. Got it.

On the contrary. A legend is a story that is told. If nobody is talking about it, there is no legend anymore – by definition. Your definition would exclude every legend that ever existed.
