I made a lot of mistakes early on in the game.
Character build - I put too many points into level one perks/stats instead of opening up perks farther down. I've made it more difficult on myself, but I'm only level 16 so all is not lost.
Building - I wasted a ton of materials by scrapping stuff I built to rebuild other things, instead of storing. It also took me a bit of screwing around to figure out the power pylons.
Companions - Not sure why, but I didn't bother arming and equipping my companions with better gear until last night. I'm pretty sure this was part of Fallout 3 but I was too lazy to bother. Would have helped me a lot in some of the battles I've been in. Ah well.

I'm level two just starting. I didn't play fallout 3 or 2 for that matter. It's there somewhere to store all that stuff so early on?

You can transfer items into suitcases etc, but I use the workbench, or weapons bench etc. You get that in Sanctuary as your first settlement. With the different benches at a settlement storage goes into the same cache. Then when I need to build something I take what I need by transferring it over to my person.
You can also get companions to carry stuff.

Is it worth grabbing everything? Also I spent my first point on strength. Should I save them all?

It doesn't need any patches. It's running perfectly.

Make sure you don't leave fusion cores in your power armor. I just returned to my settlement to see that a settler used my power armor only leaving the helmet and left leg intact

I'd grab what you can. Some stuff is more abundant that others though and you'll get a grove for what you don't really need. You have carrying capacity that you need to manage. Overburdening means slow movement and no fast travel.

Lots of amusing little nuggets to discover littered throughout the wasteland. Has anyone gone below Jamaica Plain yet and found the "treasures"?

When you put something in storage, where does it go? Occasionally I'll build something or find stuff but store it instead of junk it, where can I find it to place it again after that?

When there's one or more in storage you just build a new one without using resources.

So is the power armour something you start using right away? Or just save it? The first mission you get after getting to Sanctuary seems kind of difficult, should I be wearing my armour? EDIT: I kinda want to do it more sneaky, maybe I just need to be more patient or find different ways in.

I've only used it once after the first mission you get it in.
You can play each mission 100 different ways though, so it mostly depends on your play style.

The helmet for the t51 armour looks really cool. Hope I can finish the rest of the set.

My power armour is sitting on the side of the road somewhere and I don't care enough to go get it.

Having more fun of that I've move down to Normal and figured out the potential in crafting.
I've just got to accept that I'm a scrub.

I don't think any of these are mistakes really. Leveling is infinite and you can go any build at any time.
Companions are idiots honestly, they like walking into traps and charging into enemy positions while you're trying to sneak. I did a few quests alone and found it a relief how much easier it actually is to not carry a dunce around.
