She actually gave some okay answers but it doesn't change the fact that she should have sat as an independent. I wouldn't have had a problem with her seeking the PC nomination in the next election if she didn't support the WR direction.

So let's say the election is in the spring. Who would you vote for as an alternative, or would you just stay home? I tweeted to my MLA that he should resign and run in a byelection...huge surprise though, he didn't respond. (I have asked him questions on Twitter and he has never once responded, so take that FWIW)

I think that right now voters in her constituency will either stay home and not vote or vote for anyone else. I just don't see her winning any seat in Alberta right now.

Why wouldn't she win her riding next election? People in this province forget names, and just see the party. If she runs as a PC MLA, she will win.

Ya, I agree she will win. Most people don't give a crap about politics and don't pay any attention to it until election time. If they are happy with the Prentice government they'll vote for whoever runs under the PC banner.

I just looked...a conservative has held that riding since it was established in 1971. Sorry Dion, you're stuck with her.

Wildrose still exists, and can run a candidate against her.

Doesn't she have to win an election by the party to be the conservative candidate for the riding before the next election?

Part of the deal I believe is that the WR floor crosses get uncontested nominations

While I agree that people in Alberta tend to forget what happens in politics and will probably vote in all the other floor crossers, heck I've already forgotten the names of the other floor crossers besides Wilson, but I can't see there being any way that people in Airdrie vote in Smith. Anderson may have a chance (although I'm sure people on both sides of the PCs and Wildrose aren't to happy with him), but what Smith did is an unprecedented betrayal and it's not something that people are going to forget easily.

If her seat is not uncontested there will be a few people in the Highwood region that would vie for the right to be the PC candidate. Heck I know a number of people, including myself that would get a PC membership to vote against her should that happen

He convinced a bunch of them to cross.
Quote:
Mr. Manning praised the disheartened Wildrosers by pointing out that the statement of unification essentially committed to most of the opposition’s platform — and especially to a balanced budget.
“The big picture, and this was certainly in their mind, and in the mind of the premier, is that the province is heading into deep water, and it’s absolutely essential to get the budget balanced as fast as possible,” Mr. Manning said.
Mr. Anderson said Mr. Manning’s pep talk was the moment that turned the tide.
“The vast majority of Wildrose caucus members look at him with a great deal of affection, as someone who is a statesman, a man of impeccable integrity, and someone we care a great deal about,” he said.
Mr. Manning swayed several MLAs, likely enough to encourage the nine to walk out of their party as a bloc.

All I can get

I have it on pretty good authority that Danielle Smith initially wanted to jump to the Alberta Party, but was rebuffed as their floor-crossing policy requires a cooling off period whereby the applicant has to sit as an independent first.
Crazy, I know.
Whole lot of crazy happening. Dust hasn't settled yet.

I would definately vote as opposed to staying home. I might even volunteer for an alternative party to help them beat Smith. Door knocking putting up signs etc. As to which alternative i'm not sure yet and it will depend if the WRP has a candidate in my riding.
I sent an email to Smith asking her to sit as independant and wait until voters get a chance to decide.

If it's a snap election in the spring I expect the voter turnout will be high. The memories will still be raw in peoples minds and they'll want to exact some revenge.
Smith and her hubby live in High River which will make it an uneasy situation for her. I can just imagine all the looks and stares she will get when shopping for groceries and other items in town

I tend to think that you are taking this much more personally than 98% of the population and that staring someone down when they are going around town living their life sounds childish and petulant.
